Chapter 60

1004 Words

It was the killer! Fear was like a bucket of ice that drenched her in frozen terror. Unable to move, Mrs. Dixon’s mind went blank. She willed herself to move but her feet were glued to the floor. She had failed… failed the Ascariots and her friends. Mrs. Peabody had been right—they should have notified the authorities. But she in all her pride had told them not to, that she would take care of it. All of it ending with the blackmailer, walking straight into the front door and murdering every last one of them. Mrs. Dixon bemoaned her demise… for only moments ago she had thought they had arrived at the apex of disaster upon the unwelcomed arrival of the asinine Binkleys’ two days before the party that was designed to ensure her emancipation! Now she could only wish to have been that lucky.
