“Yes.” Lilly Lou forced herself to smile. She looked through her eyelashes at Herbert who had been quite uncharacteristically aloof for the past few days. Herbert, who had, until recently, pulled out all the stops to woo her and win her affection. Yet, Herbert seemed to have had a change in perspective, and to Lilly’s absolute horror, he had brought another woman to Mortimer’s coming out party.
