Sissy rushed to his side and grasped his arm. “What is it, Morris?”
He did not answer but cursed, shook her off and stuck his head into the back of the truck he had found left open. “We’ve been ransacked!!”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that someone ate half the ice cream. The boxes are all ripped up and there’s melted cream all over the place!”
“How could that happen?” Sissy rushed to look in. “I can hardly see a thing it’s so dark. Are you sure?”
“You ridiculous woman!” Morris spat out. “Take a look for yourself. We’ve been taken advantage of. It was that vicious colored woman! I know it!”
“But you were fightin’ with her the whole time."" As Sissy’s eyes adjusted to the darkness, she saw that Morris was correct: The shipment had been destroyed. “Could it have been ‘coons?”
