Before the second hearing, Richard came to the medical team's base. The team leader called to ask if I knew the man at the entrance. I could hear Richard's voice, but I didn't go outside. "Please tell him I'm not accepting personal visitors." The team leader passed on my message. Richard didn't leave. He waited outside the base all day. That evening, someone on the team asked if I wanted to see him. I said I didn't. Early the next morning, he left a paper bag. Inside were my old nurse's cap and the retirement memory book. The cap had been washed, but he still hadn't opened the book. I asked a teammate to return everything exactly as it was. From outside, Richard asked, "She doesn't even want these?" The team leader replied, "This is Ms. Sutton's decision." I didn't hear his answer.
