Half an hour later, noises echoed from downstairs again. Camilla had come back to the estate, claiming she needed to retrieve something.
I heard her footsteps coming up the stairs, followed by the sound of liquid splashing onto the carpet. The pungent odor of an industrial accelerant wafted in through the c***k beneath the door. With a sudden whoosh, flames erupted instantly and began greedily consuming the hallway.
Camilla's piercing screams rang out from downstairs. "Oh no, the lighter Daisy was playing with earlier caught the curtains on fire! It's a fire!"
The roaring fire surged upward and turned the entire second floor into a sea of flames. Thick smoke choked me and made it impossible to keep my eyes open.

Meanwhile, outside the emergency room at Kingsport Memorial Hospital, Daisy needed an urgent blood transfusion because of her severe blood loss.
The attending doctor—also a close friend of Ezra's—pulled him aside into a quiet corridor. The blood report clutched in his hand like a verdict.
"Erza, somethings off. Daisy's blood is O," he chose his next words with surgical precision. "Camilla is AB. And you are AB as well."
"What?" Erza said. It was not a question. It was a statement of dawning horror.
"A pair of AB parent," he said slowly, "can never, under any circumstances, produce an O child. The genetics don't allow it."
Ezra froze in place as his mind went completely blank. "That's impossible... This just isn't possible!"
In that instant, the shocking fraud behind the supposedly illegitimate daughter was laid bare.
Ezra stared at the blood report in disbelief while his head buzzed with confusion. He grabbed the doctor by the collar, his eyes bloodshot. "What kind of nonsense are you spouting! How couldn't I be her father! Back then, I clearly..."
"You clearly what?"
An old yet authoritative voice echoed from the end of the corridor. Dr. Harrison, the veteran physician who had operated on Ezra years ago, walked over leaning on a cane. He hurled the sealed file of confidential medical records at Ezra's face.
"During that car accident 8 years ago, your reproductive nerves were completely destroyed, resulting in permanent infertility!"
The papers scattered all over the floor. Dr. Harrison pointed right at Ezra's nose, his face filled with bitter disappointment.
"It was Rosalind! To protect your pathetic male ego, she knelt on the floor and begged me to seal those records! She took the blame for being infertile for 8 whole years and endured endless disdain from your family! You didn't even know whether you could father a child, yet you brought one home to pressure her into accepting it!"
Those two revelations hit Ezra like a double blow. Ezra looked as if he had been struck by lightning, freezing completely in place. He looked at the medical records on the floor, then at Camilla paralyzed on the ground. Eight years of absurdity, arrogance, and self-righteousness turned into one massive joke in an instant.
Extreme remorse and terror pierced straight through his heart. A sharp metallic taste filled his mouth, and blood rose in his throat, and he spat it onto the floor.
"Rosalind... Rosalind is still at home..." Pushing everyone aside like a madman, he stumbled frantically toward the exit.
By the time he sped all the way back to the estate, the entire second floor was engulfed in towering flames. The sirens of fire trucks echoed through the night sky.
Ezra fell to his knees before the scorching ruins, digging through the charred debris with his bare hands. Amidst the ashes, all he found was a bloodstained, signed divorce settlement agreement.
"Rosalind!" Ezra's anguished cry rang out before the inferno as he clawed through the ruins with burned, bloodied fingers.
