"Let her go, Kane!" Cole roared from the cliff, his voice echoing like thunder across the frozen valley. Kane ripped the flaming arrow out of his shoulder, his face twisting in agony, but he refused to drop his grip on Ella’s hair. He laughed, a dark, sickening sound, and slowly dragged the little girl closer to the edge of the cliff. "Come down here and make me, traitor. I have nothing left to lose. But I will gladly take your precious little cub with me into the darkness." Mara scrambled to her feet. Her chest was bleeding heavily, the golden light flickering wildly like a dying candle. Her legs were shaking so badly she could barely stand, but she forced herself to look at her daughter. "Ella, baby, close your eyes," Mara whispered, her voice trembling. "Mommy needs you to be brave. Can you do that for me?" Ella sobbed, her tiny body shaking in the freezing wind. "Mommy, I'm so scared! He hurts me! He pulled my hair!" Mara's heart shattered into a thousand pieces. She turned to Kane, her face raw with desperation and rage. "You want me, Kane? Fine. Take me. I am right here. Just let her go. Let her run to Cole, and I will kneel at your feet. I promise you that." Kane sneered, tilting his head as he tightened his grip on Ella's shoulder. "You have nothing to offer me anymore, Mara. You are a broken doll with a dead heart. The only thing I want is to see the light leave your eyes while your daughter watches." He raised his silver blade high above Ella's head. Mara didn't think. She didn't plan. She simply ran. Her body screamed in protest. The blood poured from her chest wound, staining the snow red with every step she took. But she didn't stop. She closed the distance in a heartbeat, throwing herself forward. She grabbed Ella's arm and yanked her away from Kane, shoving her daughter behind her. "Run, baby! Run to Cole! Now!" Mara shouted, her voice cracking. Ella stumbled backward, her small feet sinking into the snow as she sprinted toward the cliff where Cole was waiting. Kane roared in fury, lunging at Mara. He tackled her to the ground, his massive weight crushing her fragile body into the frozen dirt. "You think you can save her? You think you can outrun me?" Mara stared up into his crimson eyes, her face pale and lifeless, but a terrifying golden light flared in her chest. "I already did," she whispered. She slammed her glowing fist into his ribs. CRACK. Kane screamed, his body flying off her as if he had been struck by a massive hammer. He crashed into a jagged rock, blood spilling from his mouth. Mara scrambled up, gasping for breath. Her vision was blurring, and she could barely feel her own legs. She turned to look at Cole, who had already jumped down from the cliff. He was holding Ella in his arms, shielding her from the oncoming army. "Come on, Mara! We have to move!" Cole yelled, his voice panicked. Mara limped toward them, clutching her bleeding chest. Every step felt like she was walking through quicksand. She couldn't hold on much longer. "I can't make it, Cole," she gasped, her voice barely audible. "I'm too weak. Take her. Take Ella and go! Leave me here!" Cole grabbed her arm, pulling her against him. "No. You saved her. Now let me save you." Mara looked at her daughter. Ella was crying, reaching out for her with trembling hands. "Mommy, don't leave me! Please don't leave me!" Tears spilled down Mara's cheeks, freezing in the air. She reached out and touched Ella's face. "I won't, baby. Mommy will never leave you. I promise." Kane roared from behind them, shifting into his massive black wolf. His eyes glowed with pure hatred. "The army! Kill them all! Leave no survivors!" The Blood Fang wolves charged, a sea of fur and fangs descending upon them. Cole dropped his bow and shifted into his massive silver wolf, standing firmly in front of Mara and Ella. "Get behind me! Do not move!" Mara pressed Ella's face into her chest, holding her daughter as tightly as her failing body would allow. The wolves slammed into Cole. He fought with everything he had, snapping jaws and tearing fur. Blood splattered across the white snow like red paint. But there were too many. A massive gray wolf bit into Cole's hind leg, dragging him down. Another tackled his side, claws raking deep gashes across his ribs. Cole stumbled, howling in pain, and collapsed onto the ground. "No!" Mara screamed. Her heart was dead. Her body was broken. She had no strength left to fight. But she had her voice. She tilted her head back, looked up at the gray sky, and let out a howl. It wasn't just a howl; it was a desperate, soul-crushing cry from a mother who had nothing left to lose. The mountain shook. White fur poured out from the caves. Ancient wolves, silver and gray, burst from the shadows, slamming into the Blood Fang army with blind fury. The Warlord's old pack had answered her call. Mara watched the battle rage around her, her vision fading. She collapsed to her knees, clutching Ella to her chest. "Stay with me, baby," she whispered, her voice barely a breath. "Stay with Mommy." Ella hugged her tightly, burying her face in Mara's neck. "I'm not scared anymore, Mommy. You're here. You're always here." Mara closed her eyes, her tears freezing on her cheeks. Cole crawled toward her, his silver fur matted with blood. He shifted back to human form, his arms shaking as he grabbed her face. "Mara, you did it. You called the old pack. You saved us." Mara opened her eyes, her face pale and ghostly. "Cole... I'm dying. I can't feel my heart anymore. It's gone." Cole pressed his hand over her chest, feeling the dead, cold silence where her heart should have been. "Then give me your pain, Mara. Let me carry it for you. I am not letting you go." Mara stared at him, her eyes filling with fresh tears. "Why, Cole? Why do you keep saving me? I am nothing but a broken stranger." Cole's voice broke, thick with raw emotion. "Because you are my mate, Mara. You have been since the moment I saw you fall on that cliff. Your blood called to me, and I answered." Mara gasped, her chest trembling. "Mate? How? I have no wolf left. I am damaged goods." Cole leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers. "So am I. We will heal together, Mara. We will rebuild each other, piece by piece." A sharp, agonizing howl cut through the air. Mara looked up. Kane stood on the cliff, blood dripping from his torn body. He was holding something in his hand. A tiny, pink shoe with a silver star. Kane laughed, his voice echoing like a curse. "You think you won, Mara? You think you have my respect? I still have a piece of your daughter. She will always know her mother failed to keep her whole!" He threw the tiny shoe into the fire. Mara screamed, trying to crawl toward it, but her arms collapsed beneath her. "No! Not her shoe! Not her!" Ella started crying again, clutching Mara's neck. "Mommy! My shoe! He burned my shoe!" Cole grabbed Mara, holding her still. "Mara, she is safe. The shoe doesn't matter! Look at me! Look at Ella! She is right here!" Mara looked at her daughter's tear-streaked face. She couldn't fail her again. She refused to fail her. She forced herself to her feet, her body screaming in protest. Blood sprayed from her chest with every breath. She raised her hand, and a blinding, golden light exploded from her palm. It hit Kane square in the chest. Kane screamed, his body igniting in golden flames. He fell off the cliff, plunging into the icy river below, his screams fading into the roaring water. The Blood Fang wolves scattered, running for their lives into the dark forest. Silence fell over the mountain. Mara collapsed into Cole's arms, her body going completely limp. Ella ran to her, hugging her waist, sobbing uncontrollably. "Mommy, you saved me! You saved me!" Mara smiled weakly, stroking Ella's hair. "I will always save you, baby. Always." She looked at Cole, her vision fading to black. "Cole... I'm so tired. I just want to rest." Cole held her tightly, pressing his hand against her chest. "Then rest, my queen. I will watch over you. I will protect Ella. I swear it." Mara closed her eyes. Her breathing slowed. Ella screamed. "Mommy! Mommy, don't sleep! Please wake up!" But Mara couldn't hear her. The darkness was pulling her under. Suddenly, a deep, booming heartbeat echoed through the mountain. It was not a mechanical heartbeat. It was a strong, primal, living heartbeat. Mara's eyes snapped open. They glowed bright gold. She sat up slowly, her chest wound completely healed. She looked at her hands. Raw, ancient power pulsed through her veins. She was no longer broken. "I am not weak anymore," she whispered, her voice steady and powerful. Cole stared at her, his eyes wide with awe. "You have fully bonded with the Warlord's magic, Mara. You have been reborn." Mara stood up, looking at the burning mountain, then down at her daughter and her mate. She clenched her fists, golden sparks flying from her knuckles. "Kane is still alive, Cole. He survived the fall." Cole nodded, his jaw tightening. "I know." Mara scooped Ella into her arms, holding her daughter against her chest. "Then we hunt him down. And we end this war forever. I am done running." She looked at the horizon where the sun was rising, a fierce, unbreakable look in her glowing eyes. "Let's go find Kane," she whispered. "And let him see what a mother's wrath looks like." She took a step forward. The ground cracked beneath her feet. Golden energy exploded from her body, lighting up the entire mountain.
