Chapter five - It's about me

2091 Words
Melanie's POV: Mom and I still don't talk to each other. I should put an end to this. I want us to understand each other the way we used to do it before. I'm not sure if she will do it. All she wants is a white wedding. We can choose the same things but in a different color. She will never agree to this. I don't get her obsession with white. There is a reason why she is acting like this. Something must have happened at her wedding. I don't see any other explanation. I should talk to my dad. He can tell me what is going on with her. Our wedding is coming, and I can't wait anymore. I have to start ordering my items. They are not much. The thing is that I don't know how much time it will take for them to be made. Jordan's mom will help me if she doesn't want to do it. I don't have another choice. That's why I can't do everything alone. Also, I have to go to the coffee shop daily. I can always ask my friends for help, but I wanted to do this with my mom. Let's say that it feels different. I will need my friends when I choose their brides mates's dresses. I have a vision in my head, but I might change it. After all, I want them to like their outfits. Their shoes will match, too. I prefer flats. There won't be a second outfit for the restaurant. Comfort always comes first. I hope that my guests will like everything we choose. Today is the day. I will talk with my mom. During the weekend, she doesn't go to work. The coffee shop is open, but I gave the keys to Cassie. She will take care of it today. Natalie offered to help her, but she denied it. I think she wants to prove herself. It's not like there is a need for that. Otherwise, I wouldn't have hired her. Cassie is the best worker that I have ever had. Also, she is the only one. I trust her enough to let her take care of the shop alone. Currently, Jordan and I have breakfast. He will drop me off at my parent's house. I left him to do whatever he wanted today. I guess the boys will go out. It's his choice. I won't make him stay with me all the time. After all, he is not a puppet on a string. He has complete freedom. When I finished my food, I went to get ready. Jordan did the same. I'm nervous, but I have to do it. Soon, he left me in front of my parent's house. I have called my dad to make sure my mom is at home. Dad opened the door and let me in. - Hey, come in. - Thanks. Mom is here, right? - Yes, she is in the kitchen. - Good. - Let's go. She planned to go out later. - Hey, mom. - What are you doing here? - Can we talk? Please. - I have nothing to tell you. - But I do. All I want is for you to listen to me. I won't take you much time. - You have five minutes. I want to go out. - I will leave you to talk. - dad said and left - What happened at your wedding? - What? - Tell me. I still need some ideas for mine. Miss Blakes told me about her wedding. Now, it's your turn. - It was simple. - What was the dress? - Casual. - Mom, why don't you want to talk to me? - I didn't say that. - But you don't want to tell me what happened. What was your wedding? - I will tell you. - dad said, coming in - I'm listening. - Don't you dare. - mom said - There was no wedding at all. It was your mom, her parents, my grandparents, my parents, and me. We went to sign in one room. Later, we went for lunch at my house. That was. I mean, no dresses or anything else. - What? You didn't have a wedding. - I said and looked at my mom - No, I didn't. Are you happy? - Why would I be? This is terrible. - Our parents didn't have money to organize something. - dad said - At least they could've invited more people. - This means more food. Melanie, we might have money now, but not back then. Your mom and I were working two jobs. That was before we moved to our current jobs. We wanted to save some money for the time when we had kids. - Why didn't you tell me? I deserve to know these things. - Because I am embarrassed. You are planning a whole wedding. How could I tell you that I didn't have anything? - Easy. At least it would've helped me to understand why you were acting this way. - I'm sorry. I wanted you to have what I didn't. - I do want it, but not in the same way. People wear white when someone is dead. - Honey, that's in India. - dad said, chuckling - So? Can I have it my way? Please. - Yes, but in on condition. - Which is? - I will come with you shopping. - Deal. Mom and I talked for some time. Later, we went out. I invited Jordan's mom for lunch. This time, all of us will be in peace. Both of them talked the entire time. I texted Jordan to tell him that everything was fine. He was happy to hear that. Our next stop is a few stores. I had an eye on some things. Let's say that I still don't know if I will buy them. - What should we do next? I am free the whole day. My husband will go out with your husband. - miss Blakes said - I want to go to a few stores. - I said - No problem. We can come with you. - I would love that. - When will you try dresses? - mom asked - I don't know. I want to pick the girls' dresses first. I have something in mind. - I said and pulled out my phone - Let us see. - Here. - I like the dress, but do you think your friends will wear it? - miss Blakes asked - I hope so. The boys will fall for them. - I never thought I would say it, but black and green go well together. - mom said - Also, I want them to wear the same shoes. Everything should be matching. - We can go to a shoe store. Do you know their sizes? - Yes. - No offense, but don't you think they should try them on? - miss Blakes asked - I do, but I wanted this to be a surprise. - Let's go then. We have a lot of things to do. All of us walked out of the restaurant. I know one store that does decorations. I'm sure they can make me two angel wings. We can put them on the sides of the altar. I left our moms to look around while I spoke with the woman. She told me to give her a list of what I need. Her company will talk to me about what they can do. Later, we went to a gift shop. I want my guests to receive something as a memory of the wedding. - Hello, how can I help you? - I'm looking for wedding gifts. I want to surprise my guests and give them something. - What do you want it to be? - Do you have small angel souvenirs? - Yes, we do. These are the tree types we have. - All of them are pretty. - Do you want all of them to be the same? - I think it will be the best. - How many guests will you have? - Thirty. - I don't know if we have thirty from one type, but we do from all of them. - Honestly, I don't mind if they are not the same. I don't think my guests will argue about that. - I said, chuckling - Do you want to take them now or another day? - Give me ten from each one. Do you have that much? - I think we do. - Also, I will need small gift bags and cards. - They are over there. I have a lot of bags of each type. - I like this one. The white one with the silver dots. - Thirty? - Yes. - Count how much are there. I will bring more. - The last thing is thirty of these mini cards. - Great. I see you like angels. I can offer you this one right there. Some of my clients believe it brings luck. - Really? - They said it. I don't have one at home. - I will take one and test this theory. - Anything else? - No, thanks. If I need anything, I'll come again. I took everything, and we walked out. Miss Blakes, my mom, and I went to a few more stores. The whole day we spend shopping. Mostly, I was looking for some things. I only bought the gifts for our guests. For dinner, I was at home. Jordan was there. I showed him what I bought. Luckily, he liked everything. We decided to prepare the presents so we don't have to worry about this later. On each card, I write something. Jordan will write our names at the bottom. May this gift be your guardian angel and make your wishes come true. - How was shopping with our moms? - Great. - To understand that you and your mom are good now. - Yes, we are. - The war is over. - She never had a wedding. - What? Then how did she get married to your dad? - They only signed documents in one room. It was only my parents, all my grandparents, and my dad's grandparents. Later, they had lunch at his house. - That's it? - Yes. No dress, no glam. Nothing. Dad said they didn't have much money back then. - At least they could've invited more people. - More people means more food. - I see. - I have a crazy idea for which I will need your help. - Oh, no. What do you want? - I thought our present for my parents' anniversary could be a wedding. - Explain, please. - There are eight months until then. We can recreate a wedding. I will give my mom what she never had. - I like the idea, but how can we do it? - I won't tell her. This has to be a surprise. - Maybe my mom can help. After all, she and your mom talk a lot. - True. - What about your dad? - I will tell him, but at the end. - Who will the priest be? - You. - Me? No way. I have no idea what to do. - You will learn from our wedding. Please, help me. - I will, but with something else. - Fine. I will ask someone else to do this. - Can we focus on our wedding first? - Of course. I want us to plan everything alone. - Why? - So it will be a surprise. - What about your dress fitting? - I can go alone. - If you think this will work, I'm up for it. - Thanks. Jordan and I kept talking about our wedding. I had no idea that my mom never had one. She shouldn't be embarrassed by that. Things back then were different. Also, they didn't have as many options as we do. This is why I want to give her a wedding for her anniversary. We have a lot of time, but I'm sure she will enjoy it. Finally, she can have what she always wanted. I can make her friends send her on a honeymoon. Mom will enjoy it. Dad will agree to this. It's not like he has a choice. I will make him. Also, it will be good for them to spend some time alone out of the town. I hope everyone will like my wedding.
