Chapter 8

I turn and race north. I don't care about being careful anymore. It's Uncle Arc. How or why he is here I don't know and I dont care. He can save me. He can take me home where I belong. He will protect me. I run as fast as I can. I'm quicker than I used to be. Probably because I have Jade now. But I also know how fast vampires are. At least I believe I know where he's going. At least I think I do.
"Uncle Arc!" I scream as I'm running. Maybe he will hear me. "Uncle Arc!" his scent is getting stronger. So I know I'm catching up. I am almost to the pack border. I feel a tingle as I cross over the border. That's weird. I think to myself. But I keep following his scent when a man suddenly steps in front of me. I smack right into him and fall to the ground. Two wolves jump out of the bushes on either side of me.
I slowly crawl backwards to where I can see them all at once. This is pack lands rogue. Your not welcome here." The man says. I'm instantly nervous and scared. I've never been to the pack before and I know they don't like outsiders. "I'm sorry sir. I was just coming to see my."
But I stop short. Maybe they don't know Uncle Arc is here. I don't want to tell them I followed a vampires scent onto their land. What if they hunt him down and do something to him. "To see your what?" the man says abruptly. "My friend." I say. "From school." He looks at me for a moment.
" And what friend is that? I don't see any of our pack members associating with a rogue." He says gruffly. I was about to tell him Charlie but if that's how they felt I didn't want to get him in trouble. I just stared at him. "Speak up rogue." He growled.
Just then I heard giggling behind me. I turn around and see Lily, three guys and two girls from school. They notice me kneeling on the ground and stop dead in their tracks. Lily smirks and steps in front of the rest of them. "Well, well, well. If it isn't Jade." She says. "You know this rogue?" The man asks her. One of the other girls steps up and speaks. "Yeah we all know her. she goes to our school."
"Not often a rogue speaks the truth." The man says then looks at the wolfs. "We don't got time for teenage crap. Not with the King here."
"The King is here? Why?" One of the boys steps up and asks. "Not our King. The vampire King. We need to stay vigilant. We don't know why he's here. We fear it may be a trap." One says and I pick myself up off the ground.
That must be why Uncle Arc is here. I need to find him.
Then I notice Lily has a strange look in her eye. "Don't worry. We will take care of Jade." She says a little too sweetly to the man, who nods and disappears back into the trees, along with the wolves. "Thank you." I say to Lily and go to step away. "Oh no you don't." She says stepping forward and grabbing my arm. "Now, why don't you shift and show my friends here that wolf of yours. They didn't believe me when I told them." She says. They all step forward. "I can't shift." I say shaking my head as they all circle me.
"Don't give me that crap. I know you can. I saw your wolf. Or do you need a little reminder?" She asks and slaps me across the face. Everybody laughs and I straighten up. I turn to walk away when the guys on both sides of me grab my arms.
"Oh your not going anywhere. I told you to stay away rogue. And what did you do. You came running to Charlie. I told you that he was mine." She growls and punches me hard along the left side of my jaw. The guys holding my arms throw me down on the ground and the next thing I know I'm being kicked and punched from all around me. A foot strikes against my head and I can feel myself fading. The darkness claims me and I am relieved when the pain I'm feeling fades along with me.
I'm groggy when I come to. I don't open my eyes right away. I keep them closed to try and get my bearings. I listen intently.
"What are we supposed to do with her now? She's been unconscious all night." I hear a boy say. It must be one of them that was with Lily when they jumped me. "Yeah Lil, I didn't think you were going to go so far. And now the Alpha is looking for her." A girl says. "Can you all shut up a minute. I need to think." I hear Lily yell.
Why would the Alpha be looking for me? Oh I hope it doesn't have anything to do with Uncle Arc. I hope he's okay. Well, it can't have anything to do with that. He doesn't even know I'm here. I never found him.
I slowly open my ears since they sounded like they were in another room. I slowly sit up when I hear somebody clear their throat. I quickly turn towards my right and see the other boy sitting in a chair. "Is it true that your Charlie's mate?" He asks me and he looks very sad. I shake my head. "I'm only fourteen. I don't have a mate yet." I say. "Why were you here?" He asks me. And I decide that I might as well tell the truth.
"I was looking for my uncle I was following his scent." I say. The boy shakes his head. "Your uncle's are not stupid enough to come here." He says. "The three vampires I love with aren't really my uncles. They aren't family. I was told that I was in hiding and they were protecting me." I say. And I cant help but think that if they were protecting me I never would have been treated the way I was. I was so stupid to believe it for so long.
"So then who were you following?" He asks again. "I told you. My uncle. I was in the woods after Lily attacked me. I saw a white wolf and then I smelled my uncle. I didn't know it was my uncle at first. I haven't seen him in so long." He is shaking his head as I speak.
"The only person who has been on our territory is the King." He says. "I know it was him. I recognized his scent. I know Uncle Arc was here?" I say to him and I watch as a shocked expression comes over his face.
Then I hear Lily laughing at the door. "Wow we really must have done a number on you." She says laughing. I shoot up off the bed and back into the corner of the room. "Oh relax. Your actin like somebody is going to hurt you." She says laughing again. "Oh I wonder why." I say full of anger. "I need to go. I'm sorry for whatever I did to cause you to treat me this way but I really need to go."
Lily huffs. "To go find your Uncle Arc. Do you really think we are that stupid to believe that you are related to the vampire King? Or are you trying to get to Charlie? Since you somehow manipulated him and his father into believing you are his mate?" She spits out.
I shake my head. This doesn't make sense. "I don't have a mate. I'm only fourteen. And what do you mean my Uncle is the King of Vampires?"
