Remember That

A desperate swallow slid down Selene’s throat as Damien walked in. Selene’s eyes shifted to Ava and she pressed a small nod, indicating she excused them. “Are you sure?” Ava whispered. Selene nodded again, and Ava exhaled, disappearing up the stairs quickly. “Mr Damien…” Selene mouthed, forcing down the nervousness bubbling within her as she steadied her gaze on him. No doubt he knew what she had done with his father, Matteo. “What are you doing here?” she asked carefully. Damien chuckled, shaking his head as he walked to the sofa quietly and settled down. Selene forced a smile to her face and asked again, “To what do I owe this visit, Mr Damien?” “Is it fun?” Damien’s voice cut in—quiet, calm, unsettling. Selene raised a brow. “What are you talking about?” she choked out, snagging his gaze and holding it. He rose to his feet quietly. “Messing with me, Selene… is it fun?” he continued. Selene tucked her face away and said nothing, her heart beginning to thunder in her chest as fear shot through her spine. She knew too well that if she didn’t play her cards right tonight, she’d be dead by morning—and the Morettis would cover it up like it meant nothing. They had the power. “Mr Damien…” “One second you’re all over me, trying to get my attention… the next, you’re all over my father?” Selene shook her head quickly, her lips parting to say something when Damien cut her off. His eyes tore from her as his jaw clenched, determination fueling his veins. He was teaching her a lesson tonight, and nobody was changing that—not even his father. “Come with me…” he said, turning and walking quietly out of the house. Selene quickly scanned the room and exhaled when she saw Leo was nowhere in sight. She drew in a deep, reassuring breath and pushed her heavy legs into motion, following Damien. “Over here…” she heard him call. Her eyes shifted toward the direction of his voice, finding him pacing beside the pool. She plastered a smile across her face and walked over to him quietly. “Sir…” she bowed. Damien scoffed, his eyes roaming her body with slow precision, disgust twisting his face. “Did you sleep with my father?” he asked. Selene looked up and met his gaze, then tore her eyes away quickly. “I asked a question, Selene…” “It’s my business, Damien,” she suddenly fired, her voice dripping with confidence, taking him aback. “I’m a full-grown woman, Mr Damien, and what I do with my own—” “I’ll tell you a story.” Damien cut her off, his hand seizing her wrist and tearing a soft whimper from her. “I’ll tell you what happened to the first woman who betrayed me… how she ended up, Selene—and why you do not want to be like her.” Selene’s eyes snapped to his face, the slow smile stretching his lips sending chills shooting through her veins. Was he talking about— “Her name is Samantha…” he whispered, slicing through her thoughts. Selene swallowed into nothing. “She was the perfect woman, Selene… kind, beautiful, and loving…” “Why are you telling me this, Mr Damien? Get your hand off me…” Selene whined, breathless now, a sharp ache pressing into her chest at the sound of that name. Damien laughed. “She was obedient… had a bright future ahead of her—until she chose to play me for a fool.” Selene stared at him, blinking as though in disbelief. Marina had said something once, no doubt—but Selene had spent years refusing to believe Damien knew anything about what really happened back then. “I was going to let it slide, Selene… but I just couldn’t.” Selene lowered her gaze, her mind spiralling as she struggled to piece his words together. Was he about to admit to killing Samantha? “And guess what, Selene… she was the first woman to ever own my heart,” he sneered, his grip tightening around her wrist. “Mr Damien—” “I loved her with everything in me until after our wedding night…” he cut her off. “So tell me, Selene… if I didn’t spare even the woman I loved from paying for betraying me, what more do you think I’d do to a common w***e like you—one just lucky enough to have earned my attention?” he spat. Selene drew in a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. Damien noticed the conflict within her and scoffed, yanking her along as he dragged her toward the pool’s edge. “I’ll leave you with a warning tonight…” he growled. He shoved her. Selene hit the water with a loud splash, horror ripping through her as a sharp gasp tore from her lips. Damien chuckled, his gaze dropping to the gun in his hand as he admired it, his eyes lighting up with something unpredictable. “I won’t be so easy on you if there’s a next time, Selene…” he mouthed, locking eyes with her. “Remember that.” He scoffed, tore his gaze away, and walked off quietly.
