I woke early the next morning to keys rustling at the door once more. I threw the covers off of me quickly and sat up in the bed. I didn’t even bother trying to tame my wild bed head as Damien made his way through the door and into my room. His was dressed more business like today in an expensive black suit that accentuated his muscular form in all the right ways. His black hair was slicked back away from his face and my god,he looked delectable. The fancy suit made his authoritative energy that much more noticeable as he strode casually towards me. It made my insides warm. I groaned internally at myself. I needed therapy.
He approached the bed but stopped at foot and crossed his arms behind his back. He examined me curiously before a small smirk creeped up onto his lips.
“Good morning Ms.Connor, I hoped you slept well.”
I shook my untamed thoughts to the back of my head where they needed to stay and replied.
“ Goodmorning Mr. Coldwater. I did sleep well considering my circumstances.” That wasn’t a lie, that one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a while. Furthering my belief I definitely needed to see a therapist, who sleeps like a baby when they’ve been kidnapped? Apparently Rachel Connor does.
He nodded, still smirking.
“ I see you didn’t use the shower facilities as you are still in your old clothes.”
My eyebrows rose. I didn’t think was any of his business. “ not that it’s really any of your business but these cuffs on my ankles prevented me from removing my pants, can’t shower with my clothes on.” I said pointedly.
His eyes widened and he quickly apologized.
“ I’m sorry, I don’t know how I didn’t think of that. I should have considered that implications of removing one’s pants when cuffed the way you are.” He took a step towards me but hesitated a moment before returning back to his spot at the end of the bed.
“ If you would like and you promise to behave I will remove your cuffs after breakfast and allow you to shower and change into clean clothes before we discuss what is to happen any further.”
My heart quickened and I quickly glanced toward the door. I immediately wished I hadn’t. Damien’s eyes darkened for a moment but he collected himself quickly. “ You wouldn’t make it to the door fast enough Rachel. Both you and I know this. And even if you did you certainly wouldn’t make it through the house and out the door before I or one of the others got to you.” I sighed. He was right. His vampire speed and strength would certainly be against me and considering I had no means to defend self I wouldn’t make it far. But still the idea was tempting.
“Yes, that would be nice. I promise to behave.”
He nodded as if this satisfied him. “ Come join me at the table.” He said as he pulled out a chair and sat.
I made my way over to the table still aware that my hair made me looked like I had possibly fought a bear in my sleep last night. He saw me trying to tangle the knots at the ends discreetly when I sat down and chuckled.
His eyes roamed over me hungrily and it caused me to shiver. I tried to ignore the way my thighs clenched as he smiled mischievously at me. “Have I mentioned how absolutely gorgeous you are Ms. Connor?”
I snorted. “ nope haven’t mentioned it.”
He continued to gawk at me lien he was going to reach across the table and take me right on top of it until the chef came in with two platters of eggs, sausage and toast with grape jelly.
My mind was telling me how psycho this guy was, but my body was screaming to jump his bones and ease the building tension his presence was causing to build within me. I was still fighting that internal battle as we ate when he finally spoke again.
“ Have you thought about what I said last night?” He asked
“ I still think you’re nuts.” I replied. He glanced up from his plate briefly but returned his gaze back to his food.
“ I am in a bit of a conundrum. My clan is asking for revenge for their fallen brethren. They demand you suffer consequence. However I can’t rightly harm you and be able to live with myself. I may not have marked you yet but the bond is still there. I cannot harm you as it would be like harming myself. So I think if have come up with a solution.”
I raised my eyebrows at him and pointed my fork in his direction.
“ First off, I am not your mate. I feel nothing for you. If I was your mate wouldn’t I at least be attracted to you? I think your bloodsucking trash remember? Second. There will be no marking whatever that means.” I waved my fork back in for in a no way hose motion and went back to staking my eggs with it. A little more aggressively this time.
He dropped his fork onto his plate and gave a seductive laugh. He dabbed his mouth slowly with his napkin before leaning across the table so his face was inches from mine. He inhaled slightly and I drew back, shocked.
“ what are you doing?” I asked nervously.
His eyes were gazing at me with such a ravenous ferocity that it took everything in me not to melt into my chair. Judging from the wetness that was involuntarily pooling in between my legs it wouldn’t be long.
“ You say you’re not attracted to me, but I can smell your arousal. Your mind may object Ms.Connor but your body tells me otherwise.”
I sat still as a statue and gulped loudly. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. His nearness to me was suffocating and my n*****s puckered when I saw his gaze dip to them in my shirt. I wasn’t wearing a bra so you could clearly see the outline of them underneath. I cursed myself for taking it off in the middle of the night. He wasn’t wrong either, my body was betraying me. I cursed that too.
He pushed himself back into his chair and straightened his suit. “ That would be the mating bond. Your body is reacting to my nearness. You feel too. You just did not know what it meant. You may not have felt an immediate connection with me like I do you, but your body recognizes that you are my mate whether you’d like to admit it yourself.”
My nostrils flared. This cocky asshole. He may be causing my body to react to him but that didn’t mean we were mates. That was a ridiculous notion. One that I refused to believe.
“ Believe what you may Mr.Coldwater but I will not allow you to manipulate me into thinking I’m your mate in any shape or form. The idea is preposterous.”
He sighed, frustrated. “ Again you can think what you want for now, but with time you will come around.”
“ I will not” I stated angrily.
“ You Will.”
I lifted my chin in defiance and stared at him coldly.
“You’re insane.”
He glared at me, anger starting to swirl within his icy grey eyes.
“ Well, you’ll have plenty of time to think over seeing as you will be staying here in this room until you do.”
I slammed my hands on the table, furious at his words. How dare he keep me here. For a brief moment I thought he may let me go, since he claimed harming would harm himself. But I guess keeping me captive was technically hurting me, therefore he felt no guilt for it. But I couldn’t fathom how he thought keeping me against my will would win me over.
“You can’t keep me here forever, people will come looking for me.” I yelled.
“ is that so?” He asked.
I nodded. “ Yes, and my friends will kick your ass until next Sunday when they find me.”
He laughed. “ Well then, I’m excited to meet them.”
My threats didn’t scare him. He knew just as well as I did that any friends I had were no match for him or the clan of vampires that most likely lived in the mansion with him.
“ I will get out here.” I said through gritted teeth. Damien stood from his chair and motioned for the chef to remove our plates.
“ You should get your shower now, I will need to leave soon to attend to some business I have but I will return later.”
The arrogance of this vampire. Completely ignoring how seething I was at the notion that I was going to stay in this room and not fight him tooth and nail about it, The way he stood there expectantly made my blood boil hot.
“ I will NOT shower with you here in this room, and again I am NOT staying. If you don’t let me go I will find a way out of here.”
Damien tried to hide his irritation but his eyes told me he was done with my antics.
“ Very well. You can stay in your clothes if you wish. But I am not taking those cuffs off of you unless I’m in this room. Have a good day Ms.Connor. I suggest you read a book.”
I groaned loudly. “ So this is your solution then? Keep me caged up like an animal to appease your clan all the while attempting to swoon me? What kind of messed up plan is that?”
He didn’t answer and instead turned and walked slowly to the door. He gestured for his chef to exit. I hadn’t noticed the guy was still in the room. Once the chef had exited Damien stepped to follow. He turned to look at me one more time before leaving. A slot smile cracking the corners of his mouth. “ oh I have many plans for you Ms.Connor. This is just the beginning.” With that he left me there at the table, awestruck once again.
