The document contained a list of names.
Damian recognized several of them.
Businessmen.
Politicians.
Former employees.
People who had benefited from the destruction of Carter & Co. and Cross Enterprises.
At the bottom was one name Damian didn't expect.
Clara.
He looked at her.
“You.”
Clara's face became pale.
“I can explain.”
Amelia stepped closer.
“Were you working with Marcus?”
“No.”
“Then why is your name here?”
Clara began crying.
“He forced me.”
Damian's voice softened slightly.
“How?”
“He threatened my brother.”
She handed him her phone.
There were dozens of messages from Marcus.
Threats.
Warnings.
Orders.
Damian looked at Amelia.
“She was telling the truth.”
Clara nodded.
“I wanted to stop him.”
“Then help us finish this.”
“How?”
“Tell me where he keeps his records.”
Clara hesitated.
“The old Cross warehouse.”
Damian frowned.
“We already searched it.”
“There is a hidden room.”
They went there immediately.
Behind a wall, they found another collection of documents.
But the most important item was a video recording.
Damian played it.
Marcus appeared on screen.
But he wasn't alone.
A second man stood beside him.
Damian froze.
It was someone he knew.
Someone he trusted.
Someone who had been beside him throughout the entire investigation.
Amelia looked at Damian.
“Who is that?”
Damian's face became cold.
“My uncle Edward.”
Silence.
Edward had been helping them.
Or so they thought.
Damian turned off the video.
“We've been betrayed again.”
