Edward was waiting at the Cross mansion when Damian returned.
“You found the recording,” he said.
Damian stared at him.
“How long?”
Edward sighed.
“Twenty years.”
Amelia stepped forward.
“You betrayed both families.”
Edward looked at her.
“I made choices.”
“You destroyed lives.”
“I was trying to survive.”
Damian's voice was cold.
“You let us believe you were helping.”
“I was.”
“Then why were you working with Marcus?”
“Because Marcus had something I needed.”
“What?”
Edward looked at Maria.
“Your mother knows.”
Maria stepped forward.
“Edward, enough.”
He laughed bitterly.
“You still blame me.”
“You betrayed your own brother.”
“I wanted what was mine.”
Damian shook his head.
“You could have asked.”
“Would your father have given it to me?”
“Yes.”
“No.”
Edward's anger exploded.
“He never respected me.”
Amelia looked at him.
“So you destroyed everything because you were jealous?”
Edward became silent.
Damian stepped forward.
“The police are coming.”
Edward smiled.
“You think this ends with my arrest?”
“What do you mean?”
“Marcus was only the beginning.”
Damian's expression changed.
Edward continued.
“There are people more powerful than me.”
Amelia moved closer to Damian.
“Who?”
Edward looked at her.
“Your marriage.”
Damian frowned.
“What about it?”
“The contract you signed years ago was never just a marriage agreement.”
Amelia's heart stopped.
“What are you talking about?”
Edward smiled.
“Read the original contract carefully.”
Damian immediately remembered.
The original contract.
The document they had torn apart.
There had been a hidden clause.
A clause neither of them had noticed.
Edward laughed.
“You thought you were marrying for love.”
He looked at Damian.
“But your marriage gave someone else control of the Cross fortune.”
Damian's face went pale.
Amelia looked at him.
“Damian…”
He took her hand.
“We'll find the truth.”
Edward smiled.
“You have no idea what you've just started.”
The police sirens grew louder outside.
But Damian knew one thing.
Their greatest secret had not yet been revealed.
