Chapter 32 — Harrison's Final Move

317 Words
Richard Harrison was sitting in his prison cell when his lawyer arrived. “You have a visitor,” the lawyer said. Harrison smiled. “Who?” “Someone you know.” The door opened. Victor Cross entered. Harrison's smile disappeared. “You.” Victor sat across from him. “You failed.” Harrison laughed. “Not yet.” “You're finished.” “No.” Harrison leaned forward. “The contract is still active.” Victor stared at him. “You planned the marriage.” “I created the conditions.” “Why Amelia?” “Because she was the only person Damian would protect at any cost.” Victor shook his head. “You're sick.” “Perhaps.” Harrison smiled. “But love makes people predictable.” Meanwhile, Damian and Amelia were meeting with their lawyers. “We need to challenge the clause,” Damian said. The lawyer nodded. “It may be possible, but we'll need evidence showing the contract was manipulated.” Amelia remembered something. “Maria.” Everyone looked at her. “My mother knew about the original agreement.” Damian immediately called her. Maria arrived an hour later. When Damian explained the hidden clause, Maria became pale. “I remember that clause.” “You knew?” “Yes.” “Why didn't you tell us?” “Because I thought it had been removed.” “Who added it?” Maria hesitated. “Your grandfather.” Damian froze. “My grandfather?” “Yes.” The room became silent. Maria continued. “He believed your family needed protection from the people around you.” Damian looked at Amelia. “So the clause was meant to protect the company.” “But Harrison discovered it and changed its purpose,” Maria said. Damian stood. “Then we need the original document.” Maria nodded. “I know where it is.”
