Chapter 12 — A Dangerous Warning

275 Words
The next morning, Damian received an anonymous message. You should have stayed away from the past. He stared at the screen. Amelia noticed his expression. “What happened?” “Nothing.” She crossed her arms. “You're a terrible liar.” Damian showed her the message. She read it twice. “Victor?” “Possibly.” “Then we should tell the police.” “We will.” His phone rang. The number was unknown. Damian answered. “Who is this?” A distorted voice replied. “You found Harrison, but you haven't found the real traitor.” Damian's expression changed. “Where is Victor?” A quiet laugh came through the phone. “You'll never find him.” The call ended. Amelia looked at him. “What did he say?” Before Damian could answer, the mansion's alarm sounded. Security officers rushed into the hallway. One of them shouted, “Sir! Someone entered through the east gate.” Damian immediately pulled Amelia behind him. “Stay here.” They moved toward the entrance. But whoever had entered was already gone. On the ground was another black envelope. Inside was a photograph. It showed Amelia and Damian leaving the hospital. On the back were four words. Your marriage is next. Amelia's hands began shaking. Damian took the photograph. His face became cold. “From now on, you don't go anywhere alone.” She looked at him. “Neither do you.” He almost smiled. “Deal.” But neither of them noticed the small camera hidden across the street. Someone was watching them. And that person was waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
