The witness

Pisani smoothed his judge’s gown one last time as he sat down to listen to yet another witness for the defence. The entire courtroom was packed and Ferrari and Tancredi remained standing, ready to take the floor. The presiding judge adjusted his glasses and nodded in Riccardo’s direction.
‘You may call your witness’
Ferrari cleared his throat and Elena Silvestri was allowed in, at the end of the room. As soon as Riccio heard that name announced, he left his stool in the bunker cell and came to the bars, to be able to see her better as she made her way through the audience and went to sit in front of the court.
