THE CHAOS BREAKS LOOSE

Chapter 10 Gunfire ripped through the warehouse like a violent storm. Sparks flew as bullets smashed into metal crates. Luca grabbed Raina and pushed her behind a stack of wooden pallets, shielding her with his entire body. “Stay down,” he ordered, voice sharp with command. Raina’s breath trembled harshly. Her palms pressed against the cold concrete, her heart racing so fast it felt painful. The noise was overwhelming. Men shouting. Guns firing. Bodies moving like shadows. Luca stepped out from cover and fired two sharp shots. Someone screamed and fell. Raina covered her ears, shaking, but she forced herself to peek through a gap in the pallets. There were so many of them. Ten? Twelve? More? They weren’t here for Luca. They were here for her. One of the intruders shouted, “Find the girl! Bring her alive!” Raina’s blood ran cold. Her entire body froze as she realized they were closing in. Her breathing grew uneven. She felt like the warehouse was shrinking around her, like danger was pulling at her from every direction. Luca grabbed her arm again, pulling her back behind him just as bullets crashed against the pallets where she had been. “You move when I move,” he said, eyes blazing. “If I say run, you run. If I say hide, you hide. Understand?” She nodded, too terrified to speak. Luca fired again. His movements were fast and precise, like he had done this a thousand times. His men spread out, taking positions and creating a barrier between her and the attackers. But the enemies kept coming. One man broke through the line, sprinting toward Raina with a knife in hand. She screamed. Luca spun around, raised his gun, and shot the man in the leg. The attacker stumbled but still crawled toward her, reaching out a trembling hand. Raina scrambled backward, her back hitting a crate. She could feel tears burning her eyes. She had never been this close to death. Never felt this fragile, this exposed. Luca rushed forward and kicked the man away, knocking him unconscious. He grabbed Raina’s shoulders and forced her to look at him. “Focus,” he said, his voice lower now but fierce. “This is not the moment to break.” “I… I can’t,” she whispered. “I’m scared.” “I know,” Luca said. “That fear will keep you alive. Trust me.” The sincerity in his voice caught her off guard. His eyes were sharp but there was something else behind them. Something she had not seen before. Then another explosion rocked the warehouse, shaking crates and blowing dust into the air. Luca grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the back exit. “We are leaving. Now.” They sprinted between crates as bullets rained down. Raina stumbled over debris, her lungs burning, but Luca never let go of her hand. When they reached the metal door, Luca shoved it open. Cold air rushed in, mixing with the burning smell of gunpowder. But as they stepped outside, Raina froze. More enemies were waiting. A black van screeched to a stop. Doors flew open. Men jumped out, faces masked, weapons drawn. Luca cursed under his breath and pulled Raina behind a cargo container. “They were prepared,” he muttered. Raina looked at him with wide, frightened eyes. “What do we do?” He glanced at her, jaw tight. “We survive.” Before she could respond, a masked man lunged around the container and grabbed her by the wrist, yanking her away from Luca with shocking force. Raina screamed as she stumbled. “Luca!” Luca spun around, eyes igniting with fury. He raised his gun— But the kidnapper pressed a blade against Raina’s throat. “Drop it,” the man snarled. Luca did not blink. His jaw clenched. His grip tightened on the gun. His chest rose and fell slowly, controlled, calculated. “Let her go,” he said. Raina’s heartbeat slammed in her ears. She could feel the cold blade against her skin. The kidnapper smirked. “The bounty on her is worth more than your entire territory.” Luca’s eyes turned deadly. “Last chance,” he said quietly. “Release her.” The man pressed the blade harder. Raina choked on a sob. And Luca moved. He fired. The kidnapper fell. Raina collapsed into Luca’s arms in shock. His grip closed around her waist, steadying her as her legs gave out. “You are safe,” he said, voice low and intense. “As long as you stay with me, you are safe.” Raina buried her face against his chest, shaking uncontrollably. She didn’t even realize she was crying until she felt his hand on the back of her head, steady and protective. This man was dangerous. Terrifying. A killer. But in that moment… he was also her shield. And she understood something she never wanted to admit: Luca Moretti was the only thing standing between her and death.
