Chapter 5
Raina sat on the cold marble floor of Luca’s office, her back against the desk, shaking. Her mind was a whirlwind of terror and disbelief. Marry him… or die? The words echoed in her head like a relentless drumbeat. How could anyone choose between life and a fate they didn’t understand?
Her fingers clutched at her clothes, nails digging into her palms. She wanted to scream, to run, to disappear—but she knew it was pointless. Luca’s world was too vast, too controlled. Every exit, every path, every street she had ever walked was under his watch.
Her mind raced through every possibility. Escape? Impossible. Defiance? Dangerous. Survival? Maybe, if she obeyed.
The sound of his footsteps made her jump. He entered the office silently, closing the door with a soft click that made her stomach knot.
“You’re thinking,” Luca said, his voice low, smooth, and sharp. “Good. Think carefully. There’s no room for mistakes.”
Raina’s throat went dry. “I… I need time,” she whispered.
He stepped closer, shadow falling over her, making her feel small, exposed. “Time is a luxury you don’t have. By dawn, the choice must be made. Yes… or no. Life… or death.”
She wanted to cry, to beg, to fight—but a strange pull, a dangerous magnetic force, kept her eyes locked on his. Something about him made her pulse race even as fear twisted her stomach.
“I…” she began, but the words failed her.
Luca crouched slightly, closing the distance, his gaze burning. “Do not make the mistake of thinking this is a threat. This… is a fact. My world does not forgive hesitation. And right now, your hesitation could cost you everything.”
Raina shivered, heart pounding. She could feel his power, his control, his presence pressing down on her like a storm. She wanted to escape, but deep down, she realized something terrifying: there was no escaping him.
Luca straightened, walking to the desk and resting one hand against it, eyes never leaving hers. “Think carefully, Raina. This is your life. Your survival. Your future. And you have one night to decide.”
The silence that followed was unbearable. Every second stretched like an eternity. Raina pressed her face into her hands, tears stinging her eyes. How could she say yes? How could she survive the alternative?
Outside, the city pulsed with life, but inside Luca’s office, time had stopped. She was trapped between fear and the impossible choice. Between life and a life she didn’t want.
And somewhere deep in her chest, she knew one truth: dawn would decide her fate.
