THE WEIGHT OF HIS WORLD

Chapter 3 Raina pressed her back against the sleek leather chair, trying to calm the storm of fear in her chest. The office was massive, cold, and intimidating—an empire contained in four walls. Every piece of furniture, every decoration screamed wealth, control, and danger. And he was watching her. Luca Moretti leaned against his desk, arms crossed, eyes sharp as a blade. The quiet hum of the city outside the window did nothing to soften the tension. Every second she stayed in this room, every glance she dared to make toward him, reminded her: she was completely at his mercy. “You’re shaking,” he said, voice low and controlled. “Do you always react this way when someone notices you?” “I… I’m scared,” she admitted, her voice trembling despite her best effort to sound steady. He straightened, walking slowly around the desk, each step deliberate. “Good. You should be. Fear keeps you alive.” Raina swallowed hard, gripping the edge of her chair. She had never felt so small, so powerless. “I—I didn’t mean to see… what happened.” Luca stopped, tilting his head slightly, as if amused by her honesty. “Intentions mean nothing in my world. What matters is… actions. And you’ve acted recklessly.” She shivered. His words were sharp, but there was something else behind them—a magnetic force, impossible to describe, that made her pulse race. “Now you’re here,” he continued, his gaze locking onto hers. “And I need to know… do you understand what it means to survive in my world?” Raina’s mind raced. Survive? How do I survive a man like him? How do I breathe in a room where every second could be my last? He circled her slowly, like a predator studying prey. “You’re trapped, Raina. You have nowhere to go. No one can help you. And yet…” He paused, his eyes darkening. “I’m not cruel without reason. For now, I’m giving you a chance to prove yourself. One wrong move…” He let the sentence hang in the air, heavy and suffocating. “…and you won’t leave this room alive.” Raina’s hands clenched into fists in her lap. Her chest tightened. She could feel the power radiating off him, dangerous and overwhelming. And yet, beneath the fear, a strange spark of fascination stirred—a mix of terror and something else she couldn’t name. “I… I’ll be careful,” she whispered, voice barely audible. He smiled faintly, a dangerous, unreadable curve of his lips. “Careful won’t be enough. You’ll need to learn, adapt… and survive. That is the only way you stay in my world.” The silence returned, thick and suffocating. Raina’s mind raced as she stared at the imposing figure of Luca Moretti. She understood, with a sinking certainty, that her life had changed forever. The streets she had walked freely, the hotel where she worked, even the small apartment she called home—all of it was gone. She was trapped. Completely. And somewhere deep inside, she realized: surviving Luca Moretti would be harder than she could ever imagine. But as her eyes met his one last time before he turned away, a single, terrifying thought burned through her mind: I am completely at his mercy… and he knows it.
