--- Chapter 6: The Breaking Point Eli’s POV The night air was quiet. Eli’s fingers curled into the fabric of his sleeves as he sat on the bench, staring at nothing in particular. His chest still felt heavy, but the weight wasn’t crushing him anymore. Lucian hadn’t said much. He had just stayed. And for once, Eli didn’t feel like he had to explain himself. His voice was soft when he finally spoke. “You’re really my mate?” Lucian, who had been standing beside the bench, exhaled slowly before sitting down next to him. “Yes.” Eli swallowed. “But Kieran—” Lucian’s expression darkened at the mention of his twin. “I know.” Eli bit his lip. “How… How is this even possible?” Lucian was silent for a moment, then he glanced at Eli. “There are rare cases where an omega has two fated mates. It’s uncommon, but not impossible.” His voice dropped, steady but firm. “But what Kieran did—his ignorance, his rejection? That was a mistake. Not fate.” Eli flinched at the word rejection, even though he knew it was true. Lucian noticed. His fingers twitched slightly, as if he wanted to reach out but was holding himself back. “I won’t force you to do anything, Eli. But I need you to understand something.” Eli turned his head slightly, meeting Lucian’s gaze. Lucian’s voice was low, certain, unshakable. “I won’t reject you.” Eli’s breath hitched. Lucian leaned in slightly, his presence grounding, steady. “You don’t have to give me an answer tonight. Hell, you don’t even have to talk to me if you don’t want to. But just know—I see you. And I won’t make the same mistake he did.” Eli’s vision blurred slightly, but he blinked the tears away. For the first time that night, something in his chest unclenched. --- Kieran’s POV Kieran couldn’t breathe. Mason’s words kept playing over and over in his head, but no matter how many times he tried to make sense of them, the truth remained the same. Eli was his mate. And he had walked right past him. Kieran sat in his car, gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white. His heart was pounding, his mind racing with memories he had ignored. The slight tug in his chest. The way Eli’s scent had made something in him stir—but he had pushed it down. The flicker of hurt in Eli’s eyes. He hadn’t noticed. He had been too focused on himself, too detached, too stupid. His mind whispered a dark, terrifying thought. I hurt him. And now, Lucian had stepped in. His older twin—the one who had always been more composed, more level-headed, more patient—had seen what Kieran hadn’t. And Kieran knew Lucian. Lucian never let go of things he claimed as his. Kieran let out a sharp breath, anger bubbling beneath the regret. Not at Eli. At himself. At Lucian. He didn’t know how to fix this. But he had to. ---
