Chapter 11: The First Step to Us
Eli’s POV
It happened on a night when Eli least expected it.
It had been a long day, full of exhausting meetings and endless talking. All Eli had wanted was to go home, shower, and collapse into bed.
But when he walked outside the pack hall, he found Kieran waiting.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Eli could have ignored him. Could have walked past and pretended he didn’t see him.
But… he didn’t.
Instead, he sighed. “If you’re here to apologize again, don’t bother.”
Kieran’s lips twitched in something that almost looked like a self-deprecating smile. “I’m not.”
That caught Eli off guard. “You’re not?”
Kieran shook his head. “I figured out that you don’t need my words. You need me to show you that I mean it.”
Eli blinked.
Because for the first time, Kieran actually understood.
“…Alright,” Eli said slowly, crossing his arms. “Then what are you doing here?”
Kieran hesitated for only a second before answering. “I wanted to walk you home.”
Eli’s first instinct was to refuse. To tell him he didn’t need it. That he was fine on his own.
But for some reason… he didn’t.
“…Fine.”
It was just a walk.
Just a short distance from the pack hall to his home.
It didn’t mean anything.
And yet, as they walked side by side in comfortable silence, Eli felt something in his chest loosen.
It wasn’t fixed.
Not yet.
But maybe… just maybe… it could be.

Lucian & Kieran: A Promise to Make Him Happy
Later that night, after Eli had gone inside, Kieran found Lucian waiting for him.
Lucian leaned against the porch railing, watching Kieran with a knowing look. “So?”
Kieran exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t know. It was small, but… it felt like a step forward.”
Lucian nodded. “Good.”
Kieran studied him for a moment before asking, “What about you?”
Lucian smirked slightly. “What about me?”
“You and Eli. You’re getting closer.”
Lucian didn’t deny it. “Yeah. We are.”
Kieran swallowed. “Does it… bother you? That I’m trying?”
Lucian tilted his head. “It would have, if you were doing it for the wrong reasons.”
Kieran let out a dry laugh. “And now?”
Lucian’s gaze softened. “Now? I think we both want the same thing.”
Kieran met his eyes.
They weren’t rivals. They weren’t competing.
Because at the end of the day, they both just wanted Eli to be happy.
And if that meant figuring out how to love him together?
Then so be it.
