Chapter Five
Hailey’s POV
“You did what!” I screeched. Mum immediately covered my mouth with her hands. I stared at her. My eyes wide. I slowly pushed her hands away from my mouth.
“you are too loud” she hissed.” the neighbors would hear”
We’ll let them. I said to myself. Having a step farther now was a little too much for me to bear. I turned to mum, looking into her eyes “Please tell me this is not true” I begged.
Mum folded her hands and frowned. “Oh please Hailey you sound like I had asked you have silver for dinner” she went about feeling her plate with salad. “We need someone to protect us from your father and besides I am in love with him.”
I sighed. My life has suddenly become a nightmare. Getting home from school, mum smacks me in the face with some death sentence, she calls good news. I never knew she was in talks with someone to marry. All along she had been acting like she was seeing no one.
She took out a paper from beside her. I never knew that was there all along. “Here is our wedding card. It’s going to be a small wedding.” She stared lovingly at the paper in her. “Seeing that you could be anywhere, it’s going to be small.”
I snatched the paper out of her hands and my hands tremble. Staring right back at me is the picture of a man with a striking resemblance with the boy who bullied me too today. Dark hair. Icy grey eyes. Death stare, although this man smiled. He looked like he had vomited Asher. My eyes went wild after putting 2 and 2 but then I still wanted to hear it from the horse’s mouth.
“Is… is this Alpha Marcel?” I stammered. My mother smiled and nodded.
“Isn’t he handsome? I know he has two children named… Daisy and…” she squinted while staring at the ceiling.
“Asher” I said breathlessly. A tear began to for in my eyes but I blinked them back.
“Yes Asher! That was his name” she smiled. Then she c****d her head to one side as she watched me.
“Mum how could you!” My lips quivered.
She hissed and continued. I glared at her and wondered if she was really my mother.
“I have always been burdened on how to be a perfect parent, after your father left the picture. Now I have gotten a solution to my answers, you begin to freak out! How selfish can you be you Hailey?” the chair squealed as she pushed it away and walked away from our dinner.
The couple of days that ensured to the wedding was the hardest in my life. Mum aid little to no word to me. Rather she texted me on what I would do.
The wedding was a quick one. The following day, mum ordered me to pack my things. We were going to live with her new husband. I couldn’t cry or laugh. I just sat there, numb. When we arrived at the house, my jaw dropped to the ground. Of course he was an Alpha. He as filthy rich. The house was gigantic and the bathroom in my room could fit me and mum comfortably.
Then came the stares from my half siblings. Or rather glares. If I thought I felt bad about that union, Daisy was shattered. She had mental breakdowns, shoving glass vases in the face of the maids. Weirdly none of them had been hurt. No day passed with her glaring at me with disgust in her eyes. She made no effort to hide it, no matter how many times, her father, begged her to be a little friendlier. Then I had noticed, ever since that fight I had with her, and Asher had interfered she has stopped bullying me openly.
On one hand I was relieved she wasn’t disturbing, on the other hand, I shuddered at what Asher had planned for me. He hadn’t made a move on me physically lately, well aside that time I was at my locker and he called me a fat ass. Everyone laughed at me and I walked away. My eyes watered.
Asher kept staring at me in school. He made me uncomfortable in many ways and no matter how I tried to run from him, he always found a way to find me. I wondered when all these would end.

“Finally the coming of age ceremony and mating ceremony is be here!” Alice shrieked as I walked by.
I sighed deeply. Finally an opportunity to leave the house has come. Once I find my mate, I would leave the house immediately. At school, people began to cross out people that were likely to be their mate. That test was 98% true half of the time. I went to the board and checked mine.
It was Devlin.
I couldn’t contain myself. I ran to the bathroom and called Lilith. She was happy for me as we shrieked like little girls over the phone. As I walked the hall way, people became nice and waved at me. They too must have seen the list. To top it all, while I was at my locker, Devlin gave some flowers and complimented my outfit.
Two days later, I was at the mate ceremony. Drinks were passed around and people dancing.
I felt a strong connection as my wolf Hale, tried to drag me to where my mate was. Toward the direction I was, I could see Devlin. I smiled.
“Why don’t you go to him? He is your mate” the girls behind me whispered. I smiled. The connection got stronger. It dragged my feet towards delving.
But then just before I could make another move towards him, I saw a girl in his arms. It was declared to everyone, that this was Devlin’s mate.
I whipped my head around, wondering what was going wrong. People were murmuring. Just then I felt another connection to someone leaning on the wall. When I got closer and the stranger looked up at me. I gasped. Clutching my hand over my mouth. And so did others.
Asher was my mate.
I had no time to understand what was going when he smirked at me.
“Listen up everybody!” he yelled while he maintained eye contact with me. “I Asher Lockwood, Alpha prince of the frost moon pack, hereby reject my mate Hailey—
I immediately took off. I didn’t want to hear any of it. I knew how it ended. I ran into the woods as I furiously wiped the tears off my eyes. Tears that wouldn’t stop falling no matter how I tried.
