TWO

TWO The next few weeks after the encounter went pretty normal. Cove went to school, did his work, then came home and either did homework or attended football practice. Pretty simplistic if you ask him. There also hasn't been much of an effort to reunite with man Cove met at the club. Actually, Cove's forgotten about him; only really thinking of him when he's in bed at night, left alone to his thoughts. Vicky and Danny haven't really brought him up either, but then again, they haven't really been hanging out all that much due to the finals coming up, oh, and Cove's birthday is pretty soon also. Luckily, they've all been let off on study leave now for an entire 2 months until the exam. That's eight f*****g weeks! Not to sound too conceited -- Cove is more than sure he'll pass, he's top in almost every class! He still has to attended school every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for football practice and stay extra late on Wednesday for the Book Club which he runs. He doesn't want to go back to school, but being apart of the school's club community really helps when writing out a good CV - makes it seem as though he's enthusiastic, which is always a plus. He's not too sure about what universities he wants to attend, but his dad is pretty adamant that it's going to be Yale. Cove, himself, has been looking abroad. I mean, he loves America, but he wishes to explore other opportunities involving his education. He's been thinking about Oxford over in Britain; Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich located in Switzerland and finally, University of Toronto in Canada. He's been given a pending place in each University, solely on the basis that he get the grades that he's been predicted by his teachers and past examination papers. Currently, he's laying on his bed, perched upwards so that his back is leaning on the headboard and his -not all that great- HP laptop sat on his lap. Danny is also lying by his feet, glued into his phone. Vicky, fortunately, is ill - serves her right really for deciding to eat a week-old pizza. Scrolling through his f*******:, he takes notice of a party being held close to the City. "Hey", he says trying to catch Danny's attention. When Danny's eyes flicker to his, he says: "You heard of Ben's party tonight?" "Uhm, yeah actually. Didn't think you'd be interested in any of his drug-fuelled parties to be honest". Cove huffs and closes his laptop, setting it next to him on the nightstand. "Yeah, well it doesn't mean I'll be touching any of that s**t. He's a teammate and he invited me, therefore I must go." He smiles sweetly at Danny, "Its courtesy". Danny scoffs. "Its courtesy", he mocks in a funny voice and rolling his eyes as Cove chuckles. "Here", Cove says, chucking the TV remote towards Danny who swiftly catches it with one hand. "Turn on the telly, I wanna know what the weathers gonna' be like next week". Danny turns on the small 35" television hung up on the wall, decorated with cartoon versions of the members of Jackass. The first thing to pop up was the face of Julie Jackson- a well-recognised TV presenter and personality . Her usually perfectly tanned face was pale as she read out some breaking news- ultimately catching both the boys' attentions. "A fatal shooting occurred this morning around 7am at the Mayor's house off the outskirts of Alberto City. It is believed that members of the Mafia known widely as the Diamante Pantera Mafia, entered the household, tying up the Mayor alongside his wife and two young sons. They then proceeded to ransack the million-dollar home, chucking hundreds of thousands worth of items onto the streets below for pedestrians to take." "Soon after, a concerned neighbour alerted police. Unfortunately, when police arrived at the scene the Mayor had been fatally shot dead as had his wife and the two young sons missing. It is not believed as to why they had targeted the Mayor, but there has been controversy over the years since his election that he had been working with the Mexican drug cartel into smuggling millions of dollars worth of drugs into Alberto City." "The investigation into the murder are still taking place and two men have been taken into custody for questioning. CCTV footage of the whole ordeal was leaked online earlier today which shows the whole event unfolding. The only thing being left was the very famous symbol of the Diamante Pantera Mafia carved into the chest of the Mayor." Cove stares wide-eyed as the news presented continues to follow up about the shooting. "That's awful", he mumbles quietly, squinting as a digitally drawn picture show up of two men who they wish to detain for questioning. "Found it!" He hears beside him. Cove looks towards Danny. "I found the CCTV footage. It's f*****g everywhere!" Cove sees the video buffering on Danny's phone. Deciding that it wasn't respectful towards the whole situation and people involved to watch the video, he quickly attempts to wack the phone out of Danny's hands but fails, instead hitting the bed. "Please don't watch it", he begs with exasperation. "How would you feel if you were murdered and it was caught on camera, which was then shared around the whole world?" "But that hasn't happened to me, so.." Cove sighs and cringes when he hears the small cries of the two boys sounding from the phone. Peering at the phone, he watches at six pixelated figures show on the screen. "Please.. let my family go". Cove shakes his head and sits up from the bed, walking towards his window. "This is what happens when you tread on the wrong side of the River", a deep, gravely voice replies. Malice coats his tone, making it sound like something you'd hear in one of those shitty re-makes of the old Italian Mafia. "Exactly! Me! Not them." "Well, you should've accepted our deal, Mr Mayor. Should've believed us when we told you that we could bring you many good things. Instead Mr Mayor - do you know what you did? You went against us. You decided to not join us, but team up with the ones we call our enemies." The men continue to mention multiple faults that the mayor is guilty of. Cove gulps. This is absurd. The life people choose to lead despite knowing the obvious consequences that could - and apparently have - come with it. It's a cheap thing to say considering that Cove willingly explores one of the most corrupt and Dangerous cities in America, but he's not breaking the law or involving himself with the likes of the Mafia or drug cartel. Alberto State is known for its shadow corruption, murders and anything else that is considered illegal. It has been run by Mayor Blackly since 2014 when the Mayor before that Boris Gate was found for six counts of mail and wire fraud. However before he could be brought to justice for his crimes, he was found chopped into six pieces in a duffle bag in the middle of a street. It was horrible. Some would say that this man deserved what came to him and his family. He's a figure that's supposed to lead, influence and protect the state of Alberto and the people not join with those that tear it down and destroy it. Maybe his death is needed. What happened to his family? Debatable. Did his wife know about what he was up too? Would his corrupt actions influence his sons? Was this a pact between him and his wife? What was the reason behind this man joining the Mexican drug cartel? Was it for money? Power? "Please don't watch it anymore, Danny", Cove pleads. His voice soft as his bright green eyes aligned with tears stare into Danny's blue ones. Cove clicks the video, standing up from the bed. "Don't get upset, Cove. The police are dealing with it, it'll be resolved soon enough". "How do you know that? Two young children have been taken by these thugs - they're probably wondering where their mummy is - oh my god", Cove pants into his hand, the overwhelming urge to cry catching up with him as tears leak from his glistening eyes. Danny swings an arm over Cove's shoulders in an attempt to comfort him. "It's okay, Cove, mate. They'll be found, they're always found". Cove wishes that was true. -change of scene- Pulling up to the curb, the empty can of Dr Pepper that's fallen onto the dashboard violently bounces and vibrates to the heavy sound of the music pumping from the large mansion on the other side of the dirt road. Teenagers fuelled on all types of alcohol and who-knows-what illegal substances, litter the outside, dancing, drinking and conversing with others. Cover steps out of the large SUV that belongs to Danny, pulling the bottom of his shirt to straighten it out and then peering up at the humongous household. "Shall we?" Danny holds out his arm, a large grin plastered on his face as he stands in the middle of the road waiting for Cove. Cove laughs, walking up to Danny and slinging his arm with his. "Looks insane", Dan comments, brushing past the revellers and entering the house. The large bass of the music hits them at full force when the door opens - almost like a punch to the face. The pungent smell of sweat, alcohol and testosterone fills the air, and the strong rays of florescent coloured lights shine in their eyes as it darts off the walls. The open room has a large group of people dancing towards the right beside the DJ booth which is occupied by the host himself. Towards the left is the joint kitchen where most of Cove's teammates are playing what seems to be some sort of drinking game, joined by non-other than the entire cheerleading squad. There is also a helium spot where people are breathing in large balloons full of the stuff in some sort of an attempt to gain a limited high. As the two walk through they are constantly greeted by friends and people they don't even know but are so off their faces their just greeting the two boys anyway. They eventually unite with some good friends and a can of beer is forced into Cove hands which he happily takes a swig from with a wide smile. Danny catches Cove's eyes from across the group. The boy lifts his red cup at Cove, signalling that this is going to be one heck of a night. He isn't too sure what's happened. But, what he does know is that the yellow pill with an imprint of a dinosaur is looking more enticing than anything at the moment. Cove isn't sure who handed it too him, or even if he's already taken any, yet all he knows is that he wants this one. Tilting his head back, he pops the pill in his mouth. The pill burns his tongue as he attempts to swallow it. With his eyes clench shut, he steadies himself with his arms bracketed out beside him resting on the walls of the hallway as the pill slips down his throat joining the many pints of beer and glasses of liquor. Nobody else is in the hallway and he hasn't seen Danny at all. He isn't even sure if he's in the same house. Following the sound of the music he turns corners and walks down many sets of stairs until he reaches an opening. He rests on the corner of the turn, spotting the same mass of bodies he saw when he first entered the house. The blown pupils of his eyes scan the crowds trying to find his best mate. Adrenaline travels along with his blood cells igniting a fire within him which is sending his heart and brain into a frenzy. As the treads through the crowd, he feels as though hundreds of hands are grabbing at him; the ground appears at his feet as a pool of purple water and as if his skin is melting. Is...Is he dying? "Cove! Cove! Mate, over here!" Who the f**k- Somebody pulls Cove back by his shirt, almost sending his disorientated body to the ground. "Cove, c'mon were heading out to the city". Danny? "Dan?" "Yeah, mate. Hurry up, dude. We gotta go". Everything goes by in a blur. One minutes he's being forced into somebodies car; squashed between two bodies and the next he's in the middle of a very familiar dancefloor in a very familiar club. At this very moment, an arse is being shoved into his crotch, grinding and moving to the beat. He clasped with his hands on the other lad's hips, pulling him back harder. The boy gets the message and pushes back, filthily grinding on Cove up and down as he begins harden in his pants. The music and the bass isn't as strong nor loud as it was in the mansion, but it's still able to make Cove's body vibrate. As him and the guy continue to grind, he takes a look around, noticing that there is nobody he recognises. What? Where is Danny? Did they all just leave? Cove pulls away from the other male, stumbling away in order to find somebody. The boy glances back and sees Cove's retreating figure. Instead of following him he just shrugs and finds somebody else to dance with. Shoving people out of the way and receiving looks that could kill, something catches at his feet, sending him tumbling to the ground. "Cove?"
