An Introduction

1045 Words
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, let me give you the actual introduction to this story. My name is Sophia. I'm about 13 years old and I live with my best friend, Apollo. I don't actually know how old I am, I'm really just estimating. Neither of us know, actually. We don't have parents, or any other guardian that's actually related to either one of us. We just live by ourselves here in this house that we... 'claimed'. For as long as we can remember, we've always been best friends. It's just been us looking out for each other and doing the best we can to do... live, I guess. I don't exactly remember how Apollo and I met. Sometimes I try to remember, but it's all kinda fuzzy. I don't remember a lot of things when I was really young. But we're still here and that's all that really matters. And you may or may not be thinking, 'don't you guys go to school?' And I'll tell you, yes. Yes we did. But we didn't like it, despite our previous thoughts about it... It's kind of a long story, but we had our reasons to stop and leave it all behind. I won't go too much into detail, but basically... This happened about a year ago or so. At first, we thought that going to school would be good for us, since we both had little understanding of how the world worked and since we had no one else to help us or had any other resources to help us appear more 'normal', we decided to attend school, now formerly known as 'prison'. And man... what a mistake that turned out to be. I mean, we knew basic stuff by figuring it all out for ourselves, but we wanted to understand it a little better and hoped that spending some time around other people would help us better understand... other humans. So, we ultimately decided going to school would be able to teach us all that. But unfortunately, it taught us a little more than that... And in quite the opposite way. Definitely not the best decision we've ever made, but we couldn't blame ourselves. In hindsight, we didn't know what we were getting into, and we didn't know what it was actually like, so we were forced to learn from experience. Somewhere during the middle of the year, I began to realize we couldn't really keep up with... well, anything. After realizing that being there was no longer benefiting us in any way, I convinced Apollo that we should drop out. And by the end of the year, we did. And that was that. And hopefully, no one remembers us, and if we happen to be out in public, we'll be lucky if we aren't recognized. Trust me, I know it sounds weird, but it's for the best. School just wasn't worth it anymore. So here we are now, doing the best we can. Ever since we left, the recovery process has been slow, but we're taking it as slow as we need to. I still accidentally wake up at six in the morning thinking we have to get up to go to school, before remembering that we freed ourselves and promptly returning to sleep for another four hours. Okay enough about that, how about some stuff about us? If you didn't pick up the details from the previous chapter, you can tell I'm a bit of an Artist. I spend most of my time doing lots of sketches and drawings with a multitude of tools that I've collected over the years. I have whole stacks of papers and old folders full of all the drawings I've made. Even during the past year at school, I've filled up so many pages of notebooks and sketchbooks with drawings. It was probably the peak of my career. I actually did more artwork than schoolwork. Deliberately. I usually draw whenever I find the time or when I'm in the mood. But I also enjoy playing video games as well as a couple other hobbies. And I bet, as you can see from the provided illustration above, I have multicolored eyes. My left eye is red and my right eye is blue. Don't ask me why they're like that, they just are and I haven't bothered to figure out why. I'm not bothered by them though. They've been that way for as long as I can remember. But I have to be careful whenever we go out in public. Because I know if someone saw my red eye they'd probably freak out and think it was some kind of disease or something. And we don't want any of that attention. Which also made school a little harder for me. I always had to comb over my hair in front of my face so no one would see. I was lucky that no one questioned me about it. As for my friend Apollo, I won't speak words for him, but I have to admit he does possess an excellent talent for singing and music. But he also does drawings too. More than once I've told him that the drawings she shows me are way better than mine. He's definitely got his anatomy down. We're both passionate for our own arts and we're both supportive of each other and we help each other out with anything, because this Earth we live on is a harsh one. We can't let our guard down yet. Okay, I guess that's probably good for a short summary. For now. So back to our story... Apollo went out to get some more groceries and I was sitting on the couch playing video games, still groggy. I played for at least a few hours or so. From where we live, it kinda takes a while to get to the grocery store and back. I wasn't completely concerned about how long Apollo took, I knew he would text me if anything happened. But after a while, my eyes felt tired just staring at the screen, so I decided to finish what I was doing and turn it off for a bit. I gathered my blanket and went back upstairs to my room.
