Victor and his team met Mariah and the other Fae at the big tree on the edge of the forest.
Mariah took Victor aside and said, “I don’t think Jade is here. We have looked everywhere and there is no sign of her.
She has to be here, snapped Victor. Where else could she be?
Someone in the Fae had to have taken her. No one else can penetrate this realm.
I know sighed Mariah, but the fact is, we just can’t find her.
We will find her, or I will tear this place and all who dwell in its borders apart! Roared Victor.
Mariah shrank back at the furious expression on Victor’s face.
Yes, your highness was all she could say.
Victor turned and strode away from the rest of the assembly. Reaching an open area, he raised his head to the moon and let loose a
long and sorrowful cry. Jake hung his head and cried too.
Hang on Jade, said Victor. I will find you if it takes all the rest of the days of my life. You are my mate and I will never stop looking.
Jade looked out the window at the moon and whispered into the air, Victor, please find me before Silas marks me and I can't be your
mate. A tear slid down her cheek and she wrapped the blanket around herself and fell asleep thinking of Victor and the life they could
have together. Sleep now sweet Jade, said Saphira. I know that your Victor and my Jake are looking for us and won't stop until they
find us.
Silas poured himself a drink and looked out at the full moon.
He smiled and said to his wolf," Well my friend, we have done it! We won! Victor will have neither his paca nor his mate for
both shall belong to us. It has been a long time coming and a long time overdue, but here we are at last. As long as I hold her in my
control, Victor would do nothing to endanger his mate.
Taking a deep drink of the whiskey, he let it slide down his throat before letting out a long and happy howl.
Mariah returned to the group gathered under the tree. Drawing in a deep breath, she said Victor is very angry and will stop at nothing
to find Jade, even if it means destroying this realm and everyone in it, we must act quickly to find our Queen and his mate before
that happens. She turned to Jermaine and said," We will continue to look for her in the towns and villages, but I do believe you and
your wolves will be more useful in your wolf form. If you can stay in the forest and valleys, it will be of more use. It will allow us to
move without suspicion and it will allow you to use your abilities as wolves.
I agree, said Jermaine. And I'll see what I can do to contain Victor's anger. He's not a monster, but he is worried and driven mad
with fear for Jade. Letting his wolf Jake run will help. He feels so helpless and it's not a feeling he's used to.
With that Jermaine turned back to the group of men and uttered a simple command, Gurads shift!
Before the very eyes of the Fae, all the men dropped and shifted into a pack of the most massive and powerful wolves they had
ever seen.
Walking over to stand in front of Mariah, Jermaine's mind linked with her and he said, can you hear me, Mariah?
Having a voice in her head talking to her was unsettling at first, but she soon became used to it and replied, Yes, I can hear you now.
Please tell me how you are doing this.
It's not complicated, said Jermaine, but it will take more time to explain than we have for now. Should we put a pin in the
explanation and come back to it later? Just know that you can speak with me as long as I continue to hold open this link and I will
hold it open as long as we are working together.
Right, said Mariah, so if there is nothing further we shall continue with our search.
Sounds good, said Jermaine. And Mariah, you can tell your people they have nothing to fear from my wolves as they know the
consequences of harming one of you. We are here to find our Luna and nothing more.
I will tell them, said Mariah.
Turning to the pack, Jermaine linked to each of his wolves and gave the order to search, staying in the forest and valleys but avoiding
the towns and villages where people might be.
Understood came the reply in unison as each wolf loped off into the night.
