Into The Realm I break the surface gulping hot, oily air, so hot that it burns the back of my throat like I’m sucking on an exhaust pipe. I am afloat in thick, syrupy water with the humidity pressing against the sea like a giant rolling pin, flattening it. I look about the surrounding seascape that is devoid of any landmass. Neither are there any aircraft scraping across the sky. Nor are there boats steaming or sailing about but for my prized Sea Gypsy that I see sitting on the top-water like a fly caught on flypaper, miraculously upright after her backwards plunge into the whirlpool. I swim to my boat, my arms and legs barely able to cleave through the sloppy seas that have the consistency of a can of Campbell’s condensed soup.
