Ariana’s heart pounded so hard she thought it might burst.
Adrian was inside.
Inside her house.
Inside her life.
Kael stood rigid in front of her, muscles taut, eyes like daggers. He had always been her protector, her shield, but right now… right now, even his presence couldn’t make the fear fade.
Adrian moved slowly, deliberately, as if he owned the space. His eyes never left hers. Every step was a reminder that he had crossed lines no one else dared, that he was dangerous in a way Kael could never fight.
“You shouldn’t have come,” Kael growled, his voice low and trembling with anger. “I told you to leave.”
Adrian tilted his head, the faintest smirk on his lips. “I like ignoring rules.”
Ariana’s stomach twisted. She wanted to shout, to scream, to pull Kael and run, but her legs felt heavy, anchored to the floor. There was something about Adrian—something terrifying and magnetic—that made it impossible to move.
“I’m not here to hurt you,” Adrian said softly, voice smooth and intoxicating. “I’m here because you’ve been running for far too long.”
Kael’s hand moved instinctively toward her, then paused. “Running from what? From him?” His gaze burned into Adrian. “Stay away from her!”
Adrian stepped closer, ignoring Kael completely. “Kael… you don’t understand. She belongs to no one. But she needs me. And I’m not leaving until she realizes it.”
Ariana’s chest tightened. She wanted to push him away. She wanted to tell him to leave. She wanted to run. But her body betrayed her. Every word, every look, every step from him pulled her closer to a dangerous edge.
Kael’s hand found hers, gripping tightly. “Ariana,” he whispered, “look at me. Don’t let him—”
“Don’t what?” Adrian’s voice cut through the room like ice. “Don’t see the truth?”
Ariana shook her head, but it did nothing. The truth, the pull, the chaos swirling around them—it was already inside her.
Adrian reached out, slow, deliberate. His fingers brushed her arm, and a shiver ran through her. Not fear. Not entirely. Something else. Something that made her heart ache and soar at the same time.
Kael reacted immediately, stepping forward. “Hands off her.”
Adrian didn’t pull back. Instead, he looked at Kael with a dangerous calm. “You can try. You can fight. But she doesn’t need protecting. She needs me.”
The words cut deeper than any punch could. Ariana’s chest constricted. She hated how they resonated. She hated that part of her wanted to believe them.
Kael’s jaw tightened. “She doesn’t belong to anyone. Least of all you.”
Adrian’s gaze flicked to her, dark and unreadable. “She belongs where she’s meant to be. And right now… she’s meant to be with me.”
Ariana’s knees nearly buckled. The room seemed smaller, hotter, the air thick with tension. The past, the present, the danger—all collided into one sharp point in her chest.
“You can’t just decide that,” Kael snapped. His voice shook, but his control never wavered. “She has a choice!”
Adrian laughed softly, a sound that sent chills down her spine. “Choice? Choice is an illusion. Haven’t you learned that yet, Kael?”
Ariana’s mind spun. Every warning, every instinct screamed at her to run, to hide, to fight. But her body—her heart—betrayed her, drawn toward Adrian in ways she couldn’t name, couldn’t control.
Kael stepped closer to her, hand on her shoulder, steadying her. “Ari. You choose. You hear me? No one else decides for you.”
Adrian’s gaze darkened, intense enough to burn her skin. “She’s already making choices. Even if she doesn’t know it yet.”
Ariana’s breath caught. The air around them vibrated with danger and desire. Her pulse raced, head spinning with the impossible reality of what was happening.
“You’re playing a dangerous game,” Kael said. His eyes never left Adrian. “I won’t let you hurt her.”
Adrian shrugged, almost casually, as if the tension wasn’t suffocating him too. “I’m not here to hurt her. I’m here to save her—from everything, from everyone who doesn’t understand her. Especially you.”
Kael’s hands tightened into fists, and he stepped forward, chest pressed against Adrian’s. “Get out.”
Adrian didn’t move. Instead, he leaned closer to Ariana, voice dropping to a soft whisper she could feel in her bones. “You know I’m right. You’ve always known it.”
Ariana’s eyes filled with tears, not just from fear, but from the impossible pull of everything he said, everything he represented. The chaos, the danger, the undeniable connection.
Kael noticed the tears. His voice softened, almost pleading. “Don’t let him get to you. Look at me.”
She blinked, tried to focus. But Adrian’s presence was magnetic. His words, his gaze, his nearness—it consumed her attention entirely.
“You can fight me,” Adrian said gently, yet every word was edged with steel. “You can deny it. But deep down… you feel it too.”
Ariana’s hands trembled. Kael gripped them, grounding her, trying to anchor her in reality. But reality was shifting. The world had narrowed into a triangle: her, Kael, and Adrian.
“Enough!” Kael barked. “I said enough!”
Adrian finally stepped back—slow, deliberate—but his eyes never left her. “For now.”
The tension didn’t fade. It lingered like smoke in the air, thick and choking. Ariana’s legs felt like jelly. Her heart was a runaway drum in her chest.
“You’re impossible,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
Adrian’s smirk returned, just a flicker, just enough. “You have no idea.”
Kael moved to her side, protective, almost feral. “You’re safe. I promise. Nobody touches you.”
But Ariana didn’t know anymore. Safe didn’t feel real. Not with him here. Not with Adrian’s words whispering through her head. Not with the danger hovering just outside the walls of her home.
She realized something terrifying—and exhilarating.
Her life had already shifted. Her heart, her choices, her reality—they were no longer hers alone.
Adrian was inside. And nothing would ever be the same again.
