Chapter 5: His Luna or His Weakness

594 Words
The next morning, the entire pack was buzzing with whispers. Sierra had been seen sneaking out of the Alpha’s wing before dawn. And Aria… she didn’t come to breakfast. Not that Kael noticed what anyone else was saying. He was too busy pacing the length of his office, jaw tight, hands clenched, replaying the moment he saw Aria’s bag in her hands the moment he nearly lost her before he ever had her. He hadn’t kissed her. Not really. But he wanted to. Gods, did he want to. And it scared the hell out of him. He wasn’t the kind of Alpha who gave in to weakness. Love, bonds, Lunas those were complications. Distractions. He couldn’t afford them. But now? Now she was in his pack, in his mind, in his blood. And his wolf wouldn’t stop howling her name. Aria stayed in her room. She didn’t eat. Didn’t train. She just… thought. About Kael. About how it felt to have someone choose her for the first time and how fast that illusion shattered. Sierra’s smirk haunted her. The memory of Liam still burned under her skin. She was tired of being second. Tired of being a placeholder. When night fell, she finally left her room not to run, but to fight. She needed clarity. Answers. Closure. Downstairs, Jace was locking up the training barn when she found him. He turned and smiled. “Was starting to think you ghosted me.” “I need to train.” He blinked. “Now? It’s almost midnight.” “I’m done running,” she said. “Help me fight.” Jace grinned. “Hell yes.” They sparred until sweat dripped down her spine and her arms trembled with effort. Jace was faster, but Aria had fire—controlled, sharp, deadly. “You’re a beast,” he panted, wiping his forehead. “No,” she said, breathing hard. “I’m a survivor.” From the balcony above, Kael watched them again. Only this time… he didn’t stay in the shadows. He descended the stairs like a storm about to break. “Enough,” Kael said, voice like thunder. Jace stepped back, immediately submitting. Aria didn’t. She turned toward him, chin high, eyes blazing. “I’m not yours to command.” “You’re mine the moment fate said so,” he growled. “I didn’t accept it.” “But your wolf did. And so did mine.” She took a shaky breath. “I won’t be your weakness.” Kael stepped close, so close she could feel his heat, his power. “You think I’m afraid of being weak? No, Aria. I’m afraid of losing control.” She stared at him. “Is that what this is?” she whispered. “Control?” “No,” he said, voice dropping. “This is need. And it’s driving me insane.” She looked away, trembling. “You’re still not ready,” he said finally, softer. “But when you are… I’ll be waiting.” He turned and walked away again. But this time, she didn’t feel rejected. This time… she felt wanted. And it terrified her more than anything. Back in her room, Aria sat on the edge of her bed, hands shaking. She was falling. For a ruthless Alpha who said he didn’t want a Luna but treated her like something precious. For a man who hadn’t kissed her but left a scar with his gaze alone. And now the question burned through her mind like wildfire: Was she becoming his Luna… or his greatest weakness?
