Chapter 7: The Confrontation

Ivy's emotions boiled over as she listened to Leo's explanation. She felt betrayed, hurt, and angry. How could he keep this from her? How could he lie to her face?

“You're just like him,” Ivy said, her voice venomous. “You're just like ryan.”

Leo's face fell, and a moment, Ivy saw a glimmer of pain in his eyes. But then, his expression hardened, and he looked at her with determination.

“I'm not like him, Ivy,” Leo said. “I know I've made mistakes, but I'm trying to make things right. I'm trying to be a better man for you.”

Ivy laughed again, the sound bitter and mocking. “A better man?” she said. “You think you can just waltz in her and fix everything with a few words? You think you can erase the past and expect me to forget?”

Leo's face twisted in frustration. “That's not what I'm saying,” he said. “I'm saying that I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make things right between us. I'm willing to earn back your trust.”

Ivy looked at him, her heart heavy with emotion. She didn't know if she could ever trust him again. She didn't know if she wanted to.

“Okay,” Ivy said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. “I'll try.”
