Chapter 10: The Reckoning

627 Words
Leo faced the consequences of his actions as Ivy's anger and hurt boiled over. He stood before her, his eyes locked on hers, and his heart heavy with regret. "I know I made a mistake," Leo said, his voice filled with emotion. "I know I hurt you, and I'm sorry. But please, don't compare me to Ryan. I'm not him, Ivy. I'm a different man, a man who loves you and wants to spend the rest of his life making you happy." Ivy looked at him, her eyes filled with tears. She wanted to believe him, to trust him. But she was scared, scared of getting hurt again. She thought about all the times Ryan had promised her the world, only to break her trust and hurt her deeply. "I don't know if I can trust you," Ivy said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know that I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. But I need to know that I can trust you too." Leo nodded, understanding. "I don't expect you to trust me right away," he said. "But I hope that one day you'll be able to forgive me and trust me again. I love you, Ivy. I love you more than anything in this world." Ivy looked at him, her heart heavy with emotion. She saw the sincerity in his eyes, and she wanted to believe him. She wanted to trust him. But she was scared. "Why didn't you tell me?" Ivy asked, her voice shaking with emotion. "Why did you keep it from me?" Leo took a deep breath. "I was trying to protect you," he said. "I didn't want you to feel like you were reliving your past. I didn't want you to hurt." Ivy laughed bitterly. "You didn't want me to hurt?" she repeated. "You kept a huge secret from me. You lied to me." Leo nodded. "I know," he said. "I'm sorry. I was wrong. I should have told you. But please, don't compare me to Ryan. I'm not him. I love you, Ivy. I would never hurt you intentionally." Ivy looked at him, her eyes searching for answers. She wanted to know why he had kept it from her. She wanted to know if he was truly sorry. "Why should I believe you?" Ivy asked, her voice cold. "Why should I trust you?" Leo took a step forward, his eyes locked on hers. "Because I'm willing to do whatever it takes to regain your trust," he said. "I'll do whatever it takes to prove my love to you. I'll be patient, I'll be understanding. I'll be the man you deserve." Ivy looked at him, her heart heavy with emotion. She saw the determination in his eyes, and she wanted to believe him. She wanted to trust him. "I need time," Ivy said finally. "I need time to think, to process this. I need time to decide if I can trust you again." Leo nodded, understanding. "I understand," he said. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here, waiting for you. I love you, Ivy." Ivy looked at him, her eyes filled with tears. "I love you too," she said. "But I'm scared. I'm scared of getting hurt again." Leo's face softened, and he took a step forward. "I'm scared too," he said. "I'm scared of losing you. But I'm willing to take that risk, because I love you. I love you, Ivy." As Ivy looked at Leo, she saw the sincerity in his eyes. She saw the love and the determination. And she knew that she had a decision to make. She could walk away, or she could take a chance on love again. The choice was hers.
