ESTELLE WINTERS
"You want me to join your pack?"
I asked in disbelief,my mind still buzzing from what he had said earlier.
Right now, the two of us were in the hotel room that I had booked earlier and Nyx was by the corner, quietly playing with her building blocks.
"Yes, that's the only way to solve this" Quincy replied, his tone was warm and welcoming.
Looking at this handsome man before me, I realized that he wasn't just a leader, he was a kind person.
"But why?.." I asked, my voice was trembling, still unable to fathom why a stranger would decide to go all out to help us.
"Accepting a stranger you had just met into your own pack, you know how risky that can be" I added and he nodded, then he glanced at Nyx, there was a kind look in his eyes.
"I know it's risky, but what can a mother and child do to my pack, plus my intuition tells me that you two are good people".
A chuckle escaped from my lips and my eyes shone with tears, then I smiled at him warmly.
"Can you give me some time to think about it?, even if it's just a day"
He nodded and stood up, stretching his tall legs in the some how cramped hotel room.
"Of course..." He trailed off and that was when I realized that he didn't even know my name.
"Estelle, my name is Estelle" I added for him and he winked.
"Very good Estelle, looking forward to see you and the little angel in my pack soon" he said gleefully but then he frowned.
"But you have to be urgent about it, The rogue detection agency in this part of the city are swift and heartless" He added.
Then he spun around, walking towards the door, with one last goodbye, he opened the door and walked out.
I heaved a sigh of relief and collapsed on the bed, bizzare thoughts running through my head.
Just then , I heard Nyx stomach grumble loudly and she looked at me with a pout.
"I am hungry, mummy,"
I laughed in delight and rubbed her hair.
"Of course my little child, Mama is going to fix a quick dinner for you".
....
"Estelle! You Little winch!"
"No!"
"Please don't"
Just as the dagger was about to plunge down, my eyes flipped open, I hurriedly switched on the bedside lamp.
Loud gasps pouring out of my lips as my chest heaved up and down.
I gripped the hotel bed quilt tightly, my body trembling.
Beside me, Nyx was sleeping peacefully, her mouth slightly open as soft snores poured out of her nose.
Outside the hotel's room window, I could hear the faint rumble of thunder and the pattering of rain on the roof.
"f**k! Why am I having this nightmare again"
I groaned, standing up from the bed.
Ever since that incident, that led me to be locked up in the pack's dungeon, I had begun to have horrible nightmares.
The ghastly face of Elaire as she plunged down the dagger, the blood.
My body trembled, goosebumps arising on the skin of my arms.
I rubbed on them shakily, pouring myself a glass of water from the can.
Just then there was a loud thunder outside, the window sills rattled and the cup fell from my hand, falling on the floor with loud shattering sounds.
"Jeez" I hissed, ignoring the wound on my ankle as I searched for a broom to sweep the fragments.
At that moment, the door rattled silently and the knob turned.
My eyes widened in alarm, trying to make sure that i wasn't seeing things.
The knob turned again, this time, it was forceful, like the person was applying pressure — in opening the door.
I hurried to the bed, picking up a sleeping Nyx then I scampered into the bathroom, laying her in the cramped bath tub.
With a deep breath, I walked towards the broken pieces of glass on the floor, packing them with my hands, ignoring the piercing pain from the glass.
I slowly unlocked the door, pushing it open with a slight creak.
"You..."
I trailed off, widening my eyes with surprise as I stared at the fat man before me.
His hands were still stretched out, towards the knob, behind him were two other men.
"What do you want!" I yelled defensively.
The huge man scratched his head with a stiff chuckle, then one of the men yanked him aside, instantly thrusting a familiar looking badge on my face.
A smirk graced his lips as he spat the dreadful words "Rogue detection agency"
My face turned pale but I lowered my eyes, a grimace on my face.
"What is the meaning of all these?, trying to break into my hotel room this late with a fake badge?. Where is your decorum?!"
My voice was raised high as I hoped and prayed in my heart that the guests in the rooms would hear the ruckus and come out.
But wishes were just wishes.
The smaller man frowned "Mam you have to come with us"
"Why do I have to, I don't know you" I snapped In disagreement, flames of fury burning In my heart.
The other one sighed "I guess we have to do this the hard way" he stepped forward but I was faster than him.
I flung the glass fragments at them, banging the door shut quickly and blocking it with the chair.
I ran to the bathroom and carried Nyx, my heart pounding loudly.
Without a second thought, I grabbed my phone and breezed towards the large window.
Thanking the moon goddess that there was no safety bars and we were at the first floor.
"Hang on there baby" I mumbled to Nyx, prying apart the window net as I squeezed myself through the gap.
"Open the door you f*****g b***h"
The door rattled loudly as the three men banged on it.
With quickened breath, I jumped through the window, heaving a sigh of relief the instant I felt the cold rain drop on my skin.
I covered Nyx with my body, sneaking into an alleyway and bringing out my phone.
Two f*****g rings...
And he wasn't picking up.
I cursed in a low breath, my head buzzing from the adrenaline and fear.
"Did she came this way?" I heard the fatso mumble.
My breath hitched, stomach churning, how did they manage to catch on that I have escaped from the hotel room already.
They were like a group of mad dogs, biting on and never letting go.
"Make sure you find her and the rogue , they are accomplices" the other guy barked.
I heard footsteps, hefty and hurried.
Just then, Nyx stirred, her green eyes flipping open as she stared at me, just as she was about to open her mouth, I covered it tightly, eyes wide in terror.
"I know you are there...".
The voice was playful and sarcastic, footsteps moving closer, not hidden by the drizzling rain and the faint crackling of thunder in the distance.
"Come out right now with that little bastard you are with" the voice sneered.
I shook my head in the dark, feeling overwhelmed, the footsteps were closer, he could probably see my head right.
My heart beat loudly in anxiousness, my soul churned with regret.
Just at that moment, I heard the clicking sound of a gun and a soft voice echoed in the darkness.
"Don't you dare move".
