ESTELLE WINTERS
My daughter can see!
That was the only thought in my head as I decorated the mini Birthday cake.
"Mummy..why are you crying again?"
I heard her curious and inquisitive voice as she stared at me, the worry In those little eyes couldn't be hidden.
I sniffed, forcing a smile.
"Mummy is just so happy"
She nodded, then she stared curiously at the red coloured butter cream.
My little angel was curious about everything.
She couldn't see before and that meant she didn't know many things but now that her eyes were fine, everything she saw felt novel and strange to her.
My hand gripped onto the pan nervously when I remembered something.
Just as I was about to dwell on my thoughts, the doorbell rang loudly.
"Coming..."
I hurried towards the door, cracking it open a bit, to my surprise, there was a ginger haired man standing before me.
"And you are..."
He stretched out a badge and I stared at it, swallowing a gulp nervously when I read the name on the badge.
"Rogue detection agency.... what's that?" I asked cluelessly, trying so hard to mask the shock and fear in my voice.
The man smiled, then he tried to look inside the house but I blocked him with a glare.
"Do you think carrying some strange badge would make me let you into my house!" My voice was raised, an octave higher.
The man frowned and moved back "I am sorry mam but some wolves have gone rogue lately and it's our duty as the Rogue detection agency to sniff them out" he explained with a smile but I was having none of it.
"Get out if my house, infact I am calling the police on you"
I threatened, gritting my teeth.
The man sighed, then he bowed his head.
"No need to get so hot, mam, I am leaving already...but remember to report any suspicions around you to me" He said, there was knowing look in his eyes as he glanced at me.
Then he smoothly slid a card into my hands and he walked away.
I shut the door quickly, not even taking one look at the contact card, I tossed it into the trashcan.
"Mummy who was that?" My breath hitched when I heard Nyx voice.
I hurriedly locked the door and pulled her into the bedroom.
Once we were inside, I hugged her and broke down in tears.
"I am sorry Nyx , mummy might not be able to keep you safe anymore" I cried loudly, the tears fell from my eyes, hot and embrassing.
How could I forgot this!.
She just shifted and they had already sniffed her out , were they going to snatch her way?
Call her a threat and a rogue?.
"Stop crying mummy"
I could hear the panic in Nyx voice.
I sniffed and looked at her worriedly, then I touched her cheeks with a painful smile, making up my mind at that moment.
"Can you go put your building blocks together, mummy has to pack up".
We have to leave this place.
And just like that, on the eve of my daughter's birthday, we left the city , leaving behind the place that was once our home.
I would rather die than watch my daughter being taken away.
I just hope that no one would find out the secret I was hiding
Or that was what I thought.
....
"We need to talk"
I glared at the silver haired young man before me, hatred brewing in my eyes.
How did they find me so soon?.
"We have nothing to talk about"
I was worried about my daughter that I left alone in the hotel room, would she be scared?.
"Miss this is important" he insisted, his amber eyes boring into mine, I couldn't deny it but this mine was handsome and his aura reminded me of him though this man was much more gentle.
I took a huge breath "what do you want?" I finally asked.
He heaved a sigh of relief when he saw that I was finally giving him room to communicate.
"My name is Quincy Hopkins , alpha of the Everest pack".
I shifted back when I heard that he was an Alpha, eyeing him wearily.
Alpha's were all the same breed of plunderers.
"We sniffed out your daughter the instant you arrived this city...she is pack less and you know what that means" he added, those amber eyes had turned stern.
My mind buzzed in shame, I knew that he was right.
Previously, Nyx hadn't had any contact with the wolf part of her so there was no issues even if she didn't have a pack.
But now that she had shifted, she needed a pack to belong to, that was the nature of werewolves.
Togetherness and Belonging.
"What if I don't find a pack..." I trailed off, my voice was hoarse as I felt the whole world was caving in on me.
It seemed like Quincy felt my despairing emotions, he placed his warm broad palms on my shoulders in an encouraging manner but his eyes were still stern.
A type of sternness that made me panic.
"She will go rogue and weak, you know what happens to rogue wolves everywhere in the world"
I swallowed, feeling a lump in my throat.
Of course I knew, after all I had lived and grown up in a pack.
The scenes flashed in my head again, making me turn pale.
Rogues and the brutal executions.
"What do I do?, I can't let my daughter die" I cried, covering my face with my palms as the tears choked me up.
Quincy embraced me, though unfamiliar but at this moment and at this point, I needed someone to be close to me.
Hold me and assure me that everything was going to be alright and he just appeared — like an Angel of light.
"Stop crying"
The more he consoled, the more the tears rolled down.
All the bottled up emotions, the grievances I had suffered all these years.
And that was when he leaned Into my ears, whispering something that made my eyes widen.
"Why don't you join my own pack?".
