“What is going on?” Maxwell asked looking from me to his mother. I shook my head and left the kitchen to check up on Chris. She was my concern now—not his ill-mannered mother. Chris was sitting outside with Juan. She was crying to him about how unfair love has been to me and how she can’t take it when people judge me. “Chris,” I softly said her name and watched her jump to her feet. “I am sorry that I ruined this case for you but I couldn’t take how she was talking to you.
