I couldn't comprehend Sabrina's cryptic words nor did I understand her reactions, as frustration welled up within me.
Standing up angrily, I declared, "If you're not going to say anything, I better leave because you're scaring me and adding to my problems."
As I turned to leave, Sabrina hurried after me, pleading, "No, no, wait, Isolde, I'm sorry."
Turning to face her, I demanded answers, "Tell me what is wrong? Am I in danger? Am I infertile? Are the rumors right?" I needed to know what was wrong with me.
Sabrina admitted, "It's why I've been giving you those herbs, but you stopped taking them. It should have worked by now."
Confused, I stated, "I have been taking those herbs for years now, Sabrina. I need something new, a valid explanation to my predicament."
She explained, "But you haven't taken them for over three weeks now, and there are side effects."
My concern only deepened, "Side effects? Why didn't you tell me about it?"
Sabrina confessed, "That's why I was worried. I want the best for you. Giving Alpha Darius an heir would strengthen our pack, and you know this. Imagine if his step brother gets an heir before him? Alpha Darius might not be able to hold that seat any longer."
Sabrina was right; the pressure on Alpha Darius affected us both. Worried about the implications, I asked, "So what's the solution now? Do I continue taking the herbs?"
Sabrina replied, "I need to run some tests on you first."
Confused, I questioned, "A test? Why? Everything seems fine with me."
Sabrina chuckled, "Nothing is alright, Isolde. You need those new herbs urgently, and after the test, I'll know the right portion to give you."
Quiet for a moment, I hesitated, uncertain about the tests and the new herbs. However, I trusted Sabrina with my life. In her hands, I knew I was in the care of my best friend who wanted nothing but the best for me.
"I nodded my head and said to Sabrina, let's go on then. Are you sure about this new portion?"
Sabrina gave a sly smile, but I missed it as she had turned away. She assured me, "Absolutely."
Expecting a regular test, I laid on the bed, only to be handed a bowl by Sabrina. Confused, I asked, "For what?"
She replied, "The test. I'll be using your urine this time."
Perplexed, I questioned, "My urine? For what exactly" We usually do the normal blood test just to check my vitamins and nothing more. This seemed a little but awkward.
Sabrina reassured me, "It's just to check your fertility, we need to know exactly what's wrong, Isolde. Trust me."
Gently nodding, I couldn't shake off the odd feeling lingering within me. My inner wolf, usually slow to react, sensed a disturbance. Though I knew I wasn't in immediate danger, I just couldn't place my hands on the disturbed feeling.
Sabrina urged, "Go on, I'm waiting for you."
Taking the bowl from her, I walked into the bathroom to collect the urine sample. Returning, I handed it to Sabrina, who smiled confidently.
"You'll see, this will work. Trust me. I did thorough research and mixed this particular herb just for you. Alpha Darius needs an heir, and an heir he'll get."
Despite her optimism, I found it challenging to muster the same excitement, worn down by disappointments.
Curious about the new herbs, I asked, "So, what about the herbs?"
Sabrina assured me, "Don't worry. I'll bring them to you after I run some tests on the urine. That way, I'll get the right dosage."
Grateful, I smiled and said, "Thanks, Sabrina. I don't know what I would have done without you."
Sabrina approached me, holding my hands. She reminded me, "What are friends for? Don't forget, no one must know about these herbs I've been giving you for years. Apart from your vitamins, no one must know about this."
I nodded, "sure, you've been trying to help me for two years. I can't put you in trouble."
When Sabrina started giving me herbs to enhance my fertility, she made me promise not to tell anyone, because it was against the pack rules.
Sabrina's mother, a witch, had created portions with both beneficial and harmful effects. One of her concoctions had unintentionally led to the death of Darius's mother, resulting in Sabrina being taken away after her mother's execution.
However, what no one knew was that Sabrina inherited her mother's magical abilities and skill in making portions and herbs.
She confided in me about this secret, expressing her desire to use her powers to help me conceive an heir for Alpha Darius. Since then, it became our shared secret.
Sabrina assured me, "I'll finalize the portion based on your fertility result and bring it to you in a few minutes. I promise you, it will change your life."
Smiling, I felt a persisting unease, but I chose to overlook it as I left Sabrina's room.
Returning to my room, I walked past Alpha Darius's father's chambers, and I overheard a heated exchange.
His father yelled, "For three whole years! Do you want to hand over the seat to your step-brother linked to our rival pack?!"
Intrigued, I moved closer to eavesdrop, witnessing my Alpha Darius standing in front of his father, I could see pain in his eyes.
In response to his father's frustration, Darius managed to say, "We are working on it."
His father exploded, "For three f*****g years?! You are the Alpha of the Mystic Moon pack and you need to act like one! If she can't give you an heir, you have to get married to someone else who is fertile and can produce you an heir!!"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. His father was suggesting he take in another mate as Luna? The suggestion of remarriage struck my heart, and I covered my mouth to stifle any noise.
My world crumbled when Alpha Darius boldly declared, "I have an heir already."
