I couldn't believe my eyes or ears. Sabrina, my best friend, the one I thought had always had my back, was the same person who betrayed me by sleeping with my Alpha.
In an instant, I rushed at them, pulling Sabrina to face her. "Sabrina?" I yelled, everyone shocked by my outburst. Without hesitation, I gave her another resounding slap.
Alpha Darius pushed me away, causing me to stumble and fall to the ground. He yelled, "Isolde! She is pregnant!!"
On the floor, I poured out my heart, crying, "You both are betrayals! How long has this been going on? You didn't see any other person to give you an heir than my very own best friend?!"
I managed to stand up, turned to Sabrina, and pointed at her, accusing, "And you!!! Pretending you cared for all these years with your sick concoctions that never worked!"
Whispers circulated as people reacted to the revelation. Darius, confused, asked, "Concoctions? What concoctions are you talking about?"
Sabrina, fearing exposure and desperate to hide her secrets, interjected, with her pretense cry, "Stop blaming me for your misfortunes, Isolde! It's obvious Alpha Darius wasn't the problem, and you have been the problem all along. Accept it! You're barren!"
In front of everyone, she humiliated me, and Alpha Darius did nothing to stop her. I couldn't bear the shame so I ran out of their presence, back into my room.
What I didn't know was far greater than me. As I left them outside, Sabrina, unknown to me, rushed into her chambers. She anticipated that I wouldn't take the last concoction she had prepared, now that I had seen her true colors.
And she needed me to take that specific concoction, though I had no idea why. Perhaps it was to make me more infertile, as right now, there seemed to be nothing she wouldn't do.
Inside my room, I felt hurt and betrayed. Alpha Darius didn't chase after me. Looking at myself in the mirror, my long dark brown hair rested on my shoulders, my blue eyes filled with tears, and my heart shattered.
Suddenly, a reflection behind me in the mirror caught my attention – it was Sabrina.
Turning around to face her, I couldn't believe she had the audacity to enter my room. I confronted her, demanding, "What are you doing here?! Wait until everyone knows you're a witch like your mother!"
Her response was a wicked smile, and she uttered, "I'm not done with you yet."
Before I could comprehend her words, she rushed at me, injecting something into my arm.
I felt my body failing me instantly and I screamed, "What did you inject me with?! What did you do?!"
Sabrina's face twisted into a deep, wicked smile as she revealed, "Right in front of you, you'll watch your unborn child bleed out of your body."
My eyes widened, breath quickened. A sharp pain pierced my stomach, and I clutched it with my hands.
Desperate to speak, I staggered, and my words choked.
My eyes widened, breath quickened, and a sharp pain pierced my stomach. Desperate to speak, I staggered, clutching my belly, but my words choked. Struggling, I reached for my dressing chair, but it couldn't sustain me, and I fell to the floor.
Lying on the floor, I could barely feel my body. Sabrina stood over me, callously stating, "If only you had taken the concoction, all this wouldn't have happened."
I wanted to scream, but my trembling hands and burning stomach left me powerless. Struggling to speak, I managed to mutter, "Wh...what...What do you mean my ba…"
Before I could finish, Sabrina laughed bitterly and revealed the painful truth. "You dumbass! You got pregnant that very rainy night Alpha Darius laid his hands on you. We both got pregnant at the same time!"
She approached me on the floor, bending down and locking eyes with me. With a twisted satisfaction, she continued, "Your precious Alpha Darius couldn't let go of the fact that I would have made a better Luna, the perfect wife and breeder of his heirs."
"You know what he told me when he made love to me? In his exact words, he said, 'I regret making Isolde my Luna.'" The words cut through me like a dagger.
I couldn't hold the betrayal. My body continued to fail me, becoming too weak to even cry. In a feeble attempt, I reached into my body, bringing my hand up to my head, only to find it stained with blood. My precious baby had slipped away from me.
Closing my eyes, tears spilled as I cried within myself, silently pleading to the moon goddess for help, "moon goddess, where are you? Please don't forsake me."
Now it all made sense—the urine test was a means for Sabrina to confirm my pregnancy. I was sure that wasn't part of her plans as I ruined it by missing one of the medications she put me on. Now I understand everything better, while it was already too late.
As I laid there bleeding, she laughed bitterly. Taking a few steps away from me, she declared, "I'm going to destroy every single thing you love, Isolde. My mother was killed for being a witch! You stole Alpha Darius from me, and now…" she said as she was about praising herself. "The rejected stone, the outcast, the daughter of a witch is giving him an heir! While I watch you die!"
She raised her hands in celebration, excitedly expressing, "Finally!! My concoction has finally been put to good use. Thank you, mummy!"
She blamed me for allegedly stealing Alpha Darius from her, She loved him, but he chose me to be his Luna. Unknown to me, she hadn't gotten over it, going to the extent of poisoning me to make me infertile and now, poisoning me and our unborn child to death.
My body became numb, and just when I thought she had finished, she lay gently on the floor opposite me, yelling, "Alpha Darius!!! Alpha Darius!!!!"
Darius rushed in, eyes darting between us in shock. I looked at him, unknown to him, I was covered in our unborn baby's blood. He yelled, "Isolde!!!"
For a fleeting moment, I believed he was coming to save me, but Sabrina called him back, screaming, "Our baby, Darius!!! Isolde attacked me, and I fought back!!! My back hurts!!! Ahhhh!!!!"
Darius's eyes remained fixed on me, and I sensed he could feel my heart calling out to him.
Sabrina continued to yell, "Alpha Darius!!!!"
He didn't move, and the last image I saw was him turning his face away as my eyes closed, breathing my last breath.
