Chapter 6: Mom

975 Words
“Mom?” I called her again. She was at the cell across to mine. She was lying and felt like she was lifeless but she isn’t.                                        “I’m so glad you’re alive. What happened?” She said.   “They kept me in her while they were looking for you. They said that I would give up information if they use you.” She said. “They’re gonna kill us if we don’t give them anything they want.” She said weakly.     “But we don’t know anything! We don’t!” I said.   “I do.” She said and it made my eyes grew bigger.   “You do? Did Dad tell you anything?” I said. Then, why didn’t she tell the Alpha yet?   “Yes.” She said.   “Then let’s tell the Alpha, that way, he’ll let us go.” I said.   “No! He won’t. He’ll just kill us both!” She said. What is wrong with her? She sounded so scared.   “Why? This is our only way out.” I said. “Mom, what are you hiding from me? We’re dead here anyway. There’s no way we can escape here.” I said. “That information might be our only way out of this.”   The door opened and pack soldiers came in. They took me and my Mom out. They let us out so I had the chance to hug my mother. She was so weak. I wonder what else they did to her. “Mom, what did they do to you?” I said while crying.   “Xena, we need to get out of here.” Mom said. “If you get any chance, you escape and you leave me here. Understood?”   “What? Mom! I can’t do that!” I said. “I won’t leave you behind.”   “Enough of this drama already!” The Alpha said. “I need to know what information you have. Tell me!”   “We told you, we don’t know anything! We are innocent!” I said bravely.   “I don’t think your mother agrees with you. Shall we test her?” He said.   “What do you mean?” I said.   The Alpha nodded at the soldiers who were now holding us. They took me away from Mom and brought me nearer to him.   “Hey, leave my daughter out of this!” Mom shouted.   “That is entirely up to you.” He said.   I cried in pain when a soldier hit me hard on my face. I coughed out some blood as well.   “Xena, No! Stay away from her!” Mom shouted.   “Do you want me to hit her this time? I can’t promise you it won’t be painless.” He said while smirking.   Mom was crying but she didn’t say a word. What did Dad tell her? Was it that important that she couldn’t trade it for my life? However, whether she speaks up or not, we’re both dead anyway.   He was about to hit me again when the door flew open. A pack member came in.   “Someone wants to talk to you. It’s the Alpha from the neighboring pack.”   “What pack and what does he want?” He said.   “It’s Alpha Duke from the Twilight Hunter pack.”   I was shocked by what I heard. Alpha Duke? What is he doing here? Is he here for me? I’m sure not. Maybe, they have some business to deal with.   “When I come back, I want to get what I want, or else your daughter dies.” He told my mother.   He left as well as the guards so we were left alone but good thing was that they put us together in one cell.   ‘I can feel him. He’s really here!’   ‘Yeah, I know. I wished he could us feel us too.’   ‘Why don’t you mind-linked him?’   ‘It’s not working if we’re here, this place was designed to not let anyone use their mind linked gifts towards other wolves’   ‘Oh, right’   “Are you alright? Does it hurt so much?” Mom said when she saw my face.   “I’m fine, Mom. What is it that Dad told you?” I said.   “Your dad—”   Mom was about to tell me when someone flew the door open. Like, the door literally flew.   “What are you doing here?” I asked Duke.   Alpha Ruso of our old pack was behind him.   “Let them go. Now!” Duke said.   The soldiers opened our cells and we were pulled out. Seriously, when will all this pulling and dragging stop?   “What did you do to her?” Duke turned to Alpha Ruso.   “If you ever lay a finger on her again, I will kill you.” He said and then walked towards me.    He looked at me with anger but then it was replaced with longing and caring when he saw my state. He touched my face and his thumb stayed on the bruises.   “Why did you run away from me?” He asked so softly.   “I’m sorry. I said.   He hugged me tight and then carried me out of the cell. Mom was also carried by someone from his pack. I know that I am now safe in his arms. I closed my eyes and succumb to sleep.
