Chapter 4

Alvina's Point of View “Ruth! Ruth! You wicked vixen, come out!” After trying the passcode and getting several rejections, I couldn't help but yell her name like a mad dog. “Ruth! Come out here and explain why the fûck you did that to my innocent brother!” I barked curtly. “You must leave here, Miss.” The security guards kept blocking my path, making it difficult to penetrate the mansion. “I won't leave here until Ruth shows up!” I vouched seriously, making a comeback. The gate made sounds as Ruth showed up, a sneer on her face as she threw some luggage at me. “What did you do to my brother!!?” I tried to reach her, but the guards were protecting her. “You have proven to me how useless you are.” She scoffed. “You killed my brother, you witch! I promised to do everything you asked me to do. Why did you harm my brother?” I questioned her anxiously with a cracked voice and she laughed. “Someone prone to die, why should I waste my money on him?” She curled her lips in disgust. “You…!!” I growled, trying to reach her again but they pushed me away. “Take your things and get out of my sight. Never set foot in this mansion again.” She informed me harshly. “You didn't only claim my parents' house because of your greed, you killed my brother and now, you are trying to chase me away?” I couldn't help but let out a laughter filled with pain. “Do you have any evidence that you or your poor parents own this house?” She asked, wiggling her brows. I swear I wanted to give her a dirty slap but there were too many obstacles. She signaled the guards and they made way as she approached me, her eyes glittering in irritation. “Your story is done here, little princess.” She leaned closer to my ear. “After you leave, I will fake a death certificate and pronounce you dead. Anyone that comes for you, will only be welcomed by your death certificate.” She smirked and looked me straight in the eyes. “You know what I mean right? I'm leaving you with nothing and chasing you far away from everything that would hinder my progress.” She spat at my face and stormed into the mansion and that was it. I lost access to the building and had little or no manpower to stand against her. In one night, my entire story changed. I sauntered from street to street, having no penny to lodge a hotel. No one would let me in because I looked like a runaway bride. “This is it.” I smiled as I saw a bustling bar far across from me. I attempted to leave but stopped in my tracks. “I can't afford to appear this way.” I ducked into a corner and tore the wedding dress apart. I made it look so short like a normal white dress and with that, I went into the bar. The loud sound of music and chattering from youngsters filtered into the air as I approached the counter. “Something hot, cold, bitter, sorrowful,” I ordered. The barman gave me a long look and smirked. “I think I know what you want.” He started mixing the drink. I drank to stupor as the drink tasted great for some reason. For a while, I forgot about my pain and delved into the present. “I want to die! I swear, I will kill all of them!” I gulped the last drink and stood from the stool. “I can live without you, jerk!” I screamed again and laughed, feeling somewhat relieved. “Want some company, my lady?” I heard a cold masculine voice from behind. “Even if I do, I prefer women right now because men are scum.” I rolled my eyes at him in disgust and shoved him away. “What did you…?” I was too busy to wait for him to complete his statement. I started dancing, laughing, and staggering until I walked into a quiet place in the bar. “Where is this place?” I quickly took a fill-up glass of wine and gulped. “A pool?” The light glinted on the surface of the blue water, attracting me to take a deep dive. “It doesn't hurt.” I sighed as I walked closer to the pool and went in. I felt so cool and free. My head was lying above the water, staring at the lights as memories rushed like adrenaline. “I have lost everything. My parents, my brother, and my home. I have also lost the only man I have loved all these years.” I tried to keep the tears from rolling down as I muttered. It was hurting and unbelievable at the same time. Staring at my hands, I saw small holes and injuries made by the injections I had taken to donate blood for Nora. I must have lost it for a second to do everything I could to please him. “Maybe I should just die and reunite with my family members.” I thought. “Hey!” I heard a sharp voice and the next was a thud sound. I felt a stout arm wrapped around my waist as the stranger pulled me up and sat me on the edge of the pool. I was flushed and shocked. “What are you doing?” I asked, trying to remain steady even though I was tipsy. He looked familiar and so handsome. “I don't know what you are going through right now, but believe me, death isn't an option.” He tried to convince me, nodding his head. “But I feel like dying because I have no purpose. I lost everything and there is no reason for me to live.” I didn't know why I was doing this but I just felt it was the right thing to do and also ease my suffocating heart. He slowly pushed the hair away from my face, tucking it behind my ear. His sharp aqua-blue eyes, stinging with indescribable expression, pierced into my wavering gaze. “Do you know that you can restore all that you have lost?” He whispered warmly, his voice pervading concern. “I don't want to..” he tried to leave but I grabbed his collar. “I don't want to live in the past, but my present wants you to lay with me,” I stated seriously. “You are drunk and believe me, you will regret this tomorrow morning.” He whispered, keeping his cool. “As long as my sorrow will die off for a while and I can breathe without thinking about my life for a moment, I don't care.” I desperately made a comeback. Richard cheated so I wasn't obliged to remain a naive nerd. He leaned closer to my ear, his breath sending sharp shivers up my spine as he grabbed my waist. “Every touch and warmth from me comes with high expectations, you will be completely my responsibility and I will never let you go. Do you still want to have an affair with me?” He whispered, pulling away and looking at me. I sensed affection, anxiety, and lust in his words but at that moment, all I wanted was to be claimed and be with me. “Yes! I want you.” And I accepted impatiently without a second thought. “Then, excuse me.” “With….?” I was cut off as he swept me off my feet, carrying me on his shoulder as he marched to his hotel room. My heart beat rapidly for the first time.
