ELAINE'S POV After the encounter with that cold man I returned to work and ended my shift, I went home to change for my other job as a waitress. I met my mom in the living room watching her favorite program on our small TV. "Good afternoon mom" I greeted as I sat on the couch " Afternoon sweetie, How was your shift?" she asked smiling " I'd rather not say mom" I said exhausted " sorry dear" " it's okay mom, I have to get dressed and head to the restaurant " i said as I head to my room to change " Goodbye, I'll be back don't wait up for me and don't forget to eat and take your medicine "I said worriedly " okay sweetie, goodluck " she kissed my cheek and bid me bye I got to the restaurant and started working I couldn't believe my luck, the same guy who'd knocked down my bike earlier this morning, causing a huge mess and disrupting my delivery, was standing in front of me looking he owned this place. And to make matters worse he'd ruined the expensive suit when I bumped into into with the coffee. " Great, just what I needed" I muttered under my breath trying to clean up the spill " Excuse me?" he said his deep voice firm but intrigued I looked up, feeling a mix of frustration and embarrassment " sorry sir, I'm just having a bit of an afternoon, you're also the one who knocked me down earlier, aren't you?" He raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise crossing his face before the mask of calm returned “ Guilty, I'll take care of the damage done to your bike" As I handed him the check, our manager Mrs Jenkins, rushed over, apologizing profusely and offering him a complimentary meal, and left a generous tip " well I guess that could've gone wrong" Mrs Jenkins said smiling As he walked out, I couldn't help but notice the way he carried himself with confidence and authority. who was this man, and what made him tick Little did I know, our encounter was only the beginning of a complicated dance between us. As he walked out of the restaurant i let out a sigh of relief. That could've gone much worse. Mrs Jenkins patted me on the back. " You handled that well, Ellaine I'm proud of you" i smiled feeling a mix of emotions " Thanks Mrs.J. I guess I didn't mess it up too badly Mrs Jenkins chuckled " you're being too hard on yourself. you're a great waitress, and you're a kind person. That's all anyone can ask for. I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards my manager. She was always supportive and encouraging. As the Evening rush subsided, I began to clean up the diner. My mind kept wandering back to the mysterious man. Who was he? What did he do? And why did he seem so familiar? Just as I was finishing up, the door swung open, and he walked back in. "I forgot my briefcase," he said, striding towards the table where he'd been sitting. As he picked up his briefcase, our eyes met, and I felt a spark of electricity. "Thanks for coming back," I said, trying to sound casual. He smiled, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of warmth in his eyes. "No problem. I'm Trevor, by the way." "I'm Ellaine" I replied, feeling a sense of connection. As he turned to leave, Mrs. Jenkins approached him. "Mr. Conor, I'm so glad you came back. I'd like to offer you a complimentary meal on your next visit." Trevor smiled politely. "Thank you, Mrs. Jenkins. I'll take you up on that offer." As he walked out of the diner, I felt a sense of wonder. Who was this man, and why did I feel drawn to him? The rest of the day flew by in a blur. I couldn't stop thinking about Trevor and our encounter. I wondered if I'd ever see him again. As I was closing up the diner, Mrs. Jenkins approached me. "Ellaine, I have a feeling that Mr. Conor's visit was more than just a coincidence. Keep an open mind, okay?" I raised an eyebrow, curious. "What do you mean, Mrs. J?" Mrs. Jenkins smiled knowingly. "Just trust me on this one, dear. You never know what might happen." As I left the diner, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. What did Mrs. Jenkins know that I didn't? And what would happen next? The next day, I received a call from an unknown number. "Hello?" I answered, my heart racing. "Ellaine, it's Trevor Conor. I was wondering if you'd like to grab that coffee I promised you." I felt a flutter in my chest. Was this a date? And what did Trevor want from me? I hesitated for a moment before responding. "I'd love to."
