Thomas came to himself as a thundering, whirling blackness faded from his mind, leaving behind a sensation of a vast, timeless, chaotic expanse. A shudder wracked his entire body. Whatever that was, it made him feel as if it turned his skull inside out, and he wanted no more of it.
