Saving My Heroine

Chapter 3

16th March 2020.

Anna entered the finance department. She let out a breath with a soft smile, they really took their time while designing the offices and spared no expense. The room was a beautiful light blue colour, bright but calming. The desks' organisation was also very good, just enough space to be private without alienating the workers. She stepped forward and greeted the few people already in the room.

“Good morning everyone, I'm Anna, a new Senior accountant and I'm looking forward to working with you." She bowed and went to the table with her name on it and took her seat.

Her table was close to five other tables arranged in a neat rectangle. Many other tables formed cliques like that, so she assumed that each clique was a team.

“Oh, it seems like the new team member is here.” Anna heard a cheerful voice saying and looked up from arranging her desk to look at the two sparkling eyed women staring at her. They were both brunettes with green eyes. She blinked, if you took that out though, they didn't really share any other resemblance.

“Anna, right?" The first girl asked. Anna nodded with a smile, the woman brightened, dropping the other woman's hand to take Anna's.

"I'm Temi and this is Amy, it's so nice to meet you.” Amy smiled and let out a softer greeting, she gave off a gentle but welcoming vibe.

Anna bent down and took out the coffee cups she had brought and handed one to each woman.

“I didn't know what you like, so I got a latte." She apologized. " Thank you for the warm welcome.”

They both smiled and took the coffee from Anna's hand.

“You're welcome, this job is not easy but it's interesting.” Temi said as she sat on her seat, she looked at Amy who had already focused on her own work.

" She's quite shy, please don't take offense.” Temi said. Anna shakes her head, “Of course not."

"Hello, everyone!” A loud voice disrupted the women's conversation, “Oh! You must be Anna" A tall man who looked like he was in his early thirties came to stand in front of her, he shook her hand firmly, “Welcome to the team, Miss Anna, we hope you love it here. I'm James, the team lead."

His joyous behavior caused Anna to give a big smile and she nodded. “Thank you sir." James smiled once more and went to his seat, " Caleb and Tom aren't here yet?” He asked. Temi shaked her head, "I saw them when I was coming in but..” she was interrupted before she could finish.

"We're here, I just wanted to grab something from up.” Two guys rushed to the table. James turned “Anna, this is Caleb and Tom, they're both junior accountants.” Anna handed them a cup of latte each, greeting them. " Amy is a senior accountant like you,” Amy glanced up giving a small smile of acknowledgement then turned back to her work, " and finally, our sunshine Temi, she's the budgeting analyst and you'll be working with her and Amy the most but don't hesitate to come to me if you have any problems." James introduced everyone.

Anna smiled, “Thank you sir and please take care of me everyone." They all smiled and started to work. Anna was given some old reports to study and familiarise herself with before she starts working.

Anna spent the whole morning, reading and analyzing the reports. Whoever handled it previously was very good, she smiled, she was really going to enjoy working here.

Suddenly, the room that was filled with typing and pen on books suddenly had quiet but persistent murmurings going around. Anna looked around, her eyes caught Temi who looked like she wanted to pop while stealing glances at the door and noticed that most occupants of the room were doing the same. She noticed that Amy wasn't though, she looked like she would rather be anywhere else.

Anna leaned towards her, “Problem?" She asked and Amy sighed.

“Our boss' young uncle will be coming today, he went abroad a couple of years ago but it seems he has come to take over the CFO position and everyone is really excited about that.”

"Why?”

Amy shrugged, a mischievous yet tired light entering her eyes. " Who doesn't love eye candy? He's hot, successful and rich. Most people haven't really seen him, so they're curious."

" You don't seem to be?” Anna teased, Amy huffed "I'm more worried about how he'll affect the mood of the department. I mean he's not here yet and people are already distracted.” Anna nodded, she could understand Amy's concerns but she doesn't think they'll last long.

She knew about him professionally, he was a big name in the financial world, in her past life, he, alongside Michael had made the company even bigger than it was right now. He had created financial strategies that many people couldn't understand and implemented them. It caused rapid growth in the company and financial world. It was even more amazing because of how young he was. Anna felt excited, she was happy to be in the company and hoped to be able to work with him.

She went back to her work. If she wanted to make a good impression on him, she had to have something to talk to him about first.

Masen stepped into the executive office, he saw Michael was already waiting for him. He looked at the face that bore a lot of resemblance to his and smiled.

“I'm not late, am I?" Michael shakes his head with a smile and hugs him.

“Welcome home Uncle."

“Thank you, it's good to be back." He looked around, “I know you'd like to catch up but let's save that till when we get home, where's my office?" He asked, not really interested in talking about his time abroad like he knows Michael wants to.

Michael leads him to his office and he settles on his seat. He smiled up at Michael “thank you, I'm sure you have a lot to do so I won't keep you." Michael nodded, walking out, he paused and said. “Welcome back Uncle, we really missed you and if you want to check the financial department is on the fifth floor."

Masen stared after him, none of his family members had really been happy about him leaving but it was something he had to do for himself. His parents had been really upset about his decisions and had not spoken to him for three of the six years he had been there.

He turned his attention to his desk, now that he was home he needed to focus on his work. He spent the next few hours familiarizing himself with the financial statements to get a scope of how he was going to handle things. He wasn't disappointed by what he saw, his family was very strict and he knew whoever had been in this position before had been very good.

He stood up at the company's lunch break, to stretch and familiarise himself with various parts of the company and the department he was directly in charge of. He left his office and took an elevator to the fifth floor, hoping some of them would still be there. He got there and found that less than half of the department was around. He walked through and was greeted very respectfully and with awe, the team leads who were around rushed towards him, nervous about his unexpected appearance. He waved his hand, “I just want to check out the department, it's not your fault you didn't know I would be coming." He admitted he knew he should have sent an email in advance.

The leads breathed a sigh of relief and requested that he set up a time for them to have a meeting. He nodded, thinking that he had at least removed one event from his schedule. He turned to leave when his eyes caught the profile of a lady, hurriedly packing her bags as her colleagues waited for her. They were probably heading out for lunch, he thought, staring. She was very beautiful, her chocolate skin glowed gently and her dark hair was packed up in a professional bun, her outfit was a simple yet professional gown and she looked like she had just stepped out of a painting. She looked up and her eyes met his, she smiled at him, bowing a little, then turned to her friend. How eyes followed her as she left the room.

Masen left the room and headed for the executive meeting to introduce him to other department chiefs with the visage of the beautiful women on his mind. He had dated his fair share of women but he had never been so captivated by the beauty of a woman. He entered the meeting room and pushed her to a corner of his mind.

I can think about her later, let me focus on my job right now. He told himself and smiled at the occupants of the room.
