Chapter 5. “ Uh… I am just gonna go. ” Katherine said, making to leave. “ No, babe. You don't have to. ” Scott said, pulling Katherine to his side as he let his hand rest on her waist. “ Babe? ” Katherine and Kelly chorused. It took a few seconds before any of them spoke. “ What do you mean, Scott? Why did you just call her 'Babe' ? ” Kelly asked. “ Because she is my girlfriend. ” Scott responded and Katherine stared wide eyed at Scott who had his gaze fixated on Kelly. “ Your girlfriend? You can't be serious. ” She said. “ As a matter of fact, I am. ” Scott said. ” Babe, meet my - ” “ Ex? ” Katherine cuts in looking at Scott who stared back at her in surprise. “ She is your Ex, right? ” Katherine asked. “ That's right. ” He answered and Katherine turned her gaze to Kelly. “ Hi. Nice to meet you. ” Katherine said and Kelly scoffed, glaring at Katherine who smiled. Then she turned her gaze to Scott. “ This is a joke, right? I mean, there is no way you have moved on just in the space of, what? three months? ” “ Well it's hard to keep count. I mean, my mind has been been occupied lately. ” Scott said, smiling at Katherine who smiled back. “ Anyways. If you would execuse us, we were just about leaving. ” Scott added. “ After you, babe. ” He said to Katherine who walked ahead of him. Scott didn't spare Kayla a glance as he walked past her, exiting the restaurant. “ Where are you parked? ” He whispered to Katherine, his hand still resting on her back. “ I took a cab. ” Katherine whispered back. “ Good. ” He said, and gestured towards his car. Kelly watched both of them through the glass and the sight of him opening the door for the lady had her clenching her fists. Kell blinked rapidly, tilting her head and forced back the tears that threatened to fall. It was dead silent in the car as none of them had spoken since he began driving. Scott kept glancing at Katherine who kept a straight face, making him more nervous. “ Uh… What's your house address? ” He asked and Katherine scoffed. “ Wow. Five minutes ago, you claimed me your girlfriend. And now you are acting like I am a stranger you offered to give a ride out of the goodness of your heart? ” Katherine said, finally looking at him and Scott nibbed at his lower lip. “ And let's be honest. I think you know my home address. You know, the place where you splashed dirt water on my dress? That ring a bell? ” Katherine added and Scott jaws clenched, as he felt so stupid. “ So can we talk about something else? Like what the hell was that stunt you pulled at the restaurant? ” Katherine asked and Scott hit the car break, causing the car to screech to a halt. Hell, he felt not only tortured but also like a 4 years old kid being scolded by his mom. Katherine watched him and gave him enough time to say whatever he was about to say. “ Look, Can we just forget it happened? ” Scott gritted out and she scoffed. “ Forget it happened? Wow. You really are an asshole, aren't you? ” “ Well, what do you expect? I should go down on my knees and thank you? ” He asked and Katherine bit her lip, her anger at the very edge that it might snap loose. “ Besides you went along with it which means you must have enjoyed the feeling of being called my girlfriend. So I don't owe you anything. ” He added “ I played along because you looked like a kid who needed to be saved from bullying, you ungrateful jerk! ” Katherine snapped and Scott swallowed nothing. “ And did you say I enjoyed it?... ” Katherine scoffed, loud in disbelief. “ I would rather remain single than date a jerk like you! ” She blurted and Scott blinked, feeling he had been slapped across the face. He moved his mouth to talk but no words formed. It's like her statement rendered him completely numb. “ See you never, asshole! ” Katherine cursed, getting out of the car and she slammed the door so hard that he flinched. “ Damnit! ” He cursed, running a hand through his hair. He rested his head on the chair and then his phone rang. Scott groaned, reaching for it in his suit pocket. He saw the name of the ID caller and he swiped it to receive. “ Hey, Dad. ” He said “ What is this I am hearing, Scott? You have a girlfriend? ” A male voice said from the other end and Scott narrowed his brows. “ Who the hell told you that? ” He asked. “ Who told me doesn't matter. It's if it's true that matters. ” The man retorted. “ Look, Dad. I don't have time for this. I am busy with work. ” “ Well it appears we have a lot to discuss so you had better be home for dinner tonight. ” The man said and the call went off. “ That fuckin b!tch! ” Scott cursed, underneath his breath. It had better not be her spreading rumors about him and then the realization set in. It's a rumor he f*****g started ! “ Damnit! ” Scott muttered, palming his face. Katherine alighted the cab and stormed into her house. She shut the door behind and walked to the living room. She dumped her bag on the couch and started towards the kitchen. Katherine opened the cupboard and took out a bottle of vodka with a cup. She stroded out of the kitchen and went to the living room. Katherine lowered herself to the couch and opened the drink. She decanted it into the glass cup and took a swift gulp, drowning the whole content. She refilled her glass and gulped in down her throat. Katherine winced slightly, dropping the bottle and glass cup. She exhaled, feeling her nerves relax. “ What an ass! ” She seethed, running a hand through her hair. She can't believe he would use her like that. Only for him to still act like the d**k he is. The scene replayed itself in her head and Katherine scoffed in disbelief. Oh, you should have just walked away, Katherine. But you just always had to be a good girl, don't you? Katherine ran a hand through her hair, feeling frustrated. “ That f*****g asshole! ” She cursed, anger evident in her voice. Scott McCall walked into a house. He arrived at an enemorous living room and he saw his Dad walking down the stairs. “ Hey, son. ” Kevin muttered, finishing off the stairs. “ Hey, Dad. ” Scott said. “ You are here just in time. Come on. ” Kevin said, and Scott trailed behind. They arrived at the dining where lots of meal was displayed. “ Where is mom? ” Scott asked, pulling out a chair for himself. “ I am right here. ” A feminine voice said and Scott watched him mom, Candice stroll out the kitchen. “ Hey, mom ” He said, pulling a tight smile. “ Hi, honey. ” Candice said and they all sat down. “ How is the business going, son? ” His mom asked. “ Fine. It's going well. ” “ That's good. ” She muttered and Scott gently dig into his food and took a scoop. “ How do you like it? ” Candice asked “ It's nice. ” Scott said, munching on it. Kevin cleared his throat. “ So… is it true? ” He asked. “ Is what true? ” Scott asked back. “ The rumors, that you have a girlfriend? ” His Dad said. “ What if it's true? Is that a problem? ” Scott asked. “ Yes and you would have to call things off with her. ” “ What? ” Scott said, dropping his cutlery. “ You heard me. The company is doing great and the last thing I need is you sabotaging it's future success ” His Dad said and Scott scoffed in disbelief. He looked at his mom who had her head lowered and then he returned his gaze to his Dad. “ I don't think my love life will be of any problem to the company. ” “ Yes it will! Especially if it's just some random girl who is with you for your money! ” Kevin snapped. Scott pursed his lips and reached for a glass of water. “ There's no girl out there that's right for you except for Kelly ” His Dad said and Scott's hand froze against the glass cup. It took him a few seconds before gently raising it and taking a swift gulp of the water. “ I told you we broke up ” “ And you never did say the reason why you two ended things. ” His Dad pointed out. “ That doesn't matter, okay? What matters we aren't together anymore. ” “ It matters to me and since you have been stubborn about it. I was forced to call her. ” “ You did what?! ” Scott said, his brows raising and he turned his gaze to his mother. “ You two have been communicating with her behind my back? ” “ I don't think it's any big deal. " His Dad said. “ You don't think it's any big deal? Are you even listening to yourself? ” Scott said, anger evident in his voice. “ Honey, she said, you two had a little argument and - ” “ I don't freaking care what she told you, mom! ” Scott snapped and Candice flinched. He shut his eyes, nibbling at his lower lip. He sucked in a sharp breath and exhaled, opening his eyes. “ A little argument? Really? " Scott scoffed, biting his lower lips, hard. “ Is that what she told you? ” He asked and his Dad took a scoop of his food. “ It doesn't matter. As far as I am concerned, you two are right for each other and you will have to fix things between you two. ” Kevin said and Scott clenched his fists. “ I am guessing she is the one who told you I am seeing someone? ” He asked, his gaze fixated on his mom. “ Honey, you should know that we are only looking out for you. ” Candice said and Scott scoffed. “ Anyways, I have talked to her and I invited her over for dinner next weekend. So you had better prepare to meet her. ” His Dad said. “ And those rumors had better not be true. ” Kevin added, taking a sip from his drink and it took seconds before Scott spoke. “ It's true. ” He said. “ What? ” His Dad said. “ Those rumors, It's true. I have a girlfriend and as far as I am concerned, she is the right one for me and there's no way I am calling things off because of that b!tch! Nor do I plan ever getting back with her. ” Scott blurted. “ Scott - ” Candice said. “ No, mom. Don't! ” Scott cuts in and Candice swallowed her guts. “ And I think I just lost my appetite, excuse me. ” He added, standing up. “ We are not done talking! ” Kevin snapped. “ I am sorry, Dad. But, I am. ” Scott said, turning on his heels and dashing out of the house. T. B. C.
