Chapter Twenty-Five Falling skies. The halls of power were as empty as they had been when I had entered Ashburn’s office. Apparently, the scuffle I’d had with Victoria Hargrave hadn’t made enough noise to arouse anyone’s interest. I was thankful I’d prevented the gun from going off, for now. I needed to move fast, unhindered by security. I stayed motionless for a moment, breathing heavily, hampered by pain, listening. To my left, the slightest scuffing of hurried footsteps gave me a target. I staggered in that direction and rounded the corner. Empty. No, wait. A slender leg, dressed in black slacks disappeared through an ornate window. Hargrave was making an escape bid through a fire exit. I raced to the open casement.
