Chapter Twenty-One The wrong goodbye. Instinct fueled my legs as I sprinted forward, racing along the pathway. In seconds I hit the bridge. Harlowe tensed, making ready to move, his hands braced against the metal railing. “No!” I cried out, closing to the last few feet. He turned at the last moment, and a look of shock flashed across his face, but I was already on him. I barreled into the man, tackling him to the ground. We collapsed to the concrete in a tangle of limbs. The cold and damp didn’t even enter my mind. Instead, relief washed over me. I’d saved him. “What the bloody hell are you doing!” snapped Harlowe as he scrambled to his hands and knees. “I’m soaked, what the—you!” Lost in a maze of emotions I looked up at the man climbing to his feet.
