-The Next Day-
-Wednesday, July 19th, 2023-
I wake up, falling out of bed with a thump and grab my phone off the night stand. What time is it. I turn my phone on and see that it’s ten in the morning. I guess I was really tired. But why did I fall on the floor?
I pick myself up off the floor and walk over to my dresser, taking out a t-shirt and shorts. I pull off my pajamas and put my clothes on. Then I grab my phone from where I left it and leave the room, heading straight for the kitchen.
Walking into the kitchen I see a plate of sausages and bacon with a note beside it. I pick up the note which reads,
“Rose, I didn’t want to wake you as you seemed to be pretty tired so I made some breakfast and left it on a plate for you. I’ve gone to meet with my lawyer and the man that’s buying my company. I’ll be home later. Have fun shopping today!
Love, your aunt Guinevere ❤️xoxo”
I unwrap the plate and stick it into the microwave, warming it for 20 seconds. Then I take it out and sit down at the table. “So, she’s really going through with it. But I guess she spent 25 years of her life on that business. She probably wants to step away from it and focus on living her life,” I tell myself, poking at my bacon, which was hot since I put it a bit too long.
I hear my phone ding so I pick it up and look at it. It’s a response from Annabelle.
‘No worries Rose. I get busy myself too. I’m always on the go. And night time is the busiest. That’s when I get my alone time with Daniel. When you texted me we were getting frisky.☺️I hope that everything is going well for you. I have another busy day planned. I’m going out to get school supplies with Julian and Molly. They wanted to get their stuff now for school so that they’re all ready when the time comes. I say there’s nothing wrong with a little preparedness. Love ya girl, enjoy your shopping trip. 😘’
That was quite the long text. But it looks like I was right about why she didn’t answer me back. I grab a piece of bacon and stick it into my mouth. It’s nice and crispy, just the way I like it. I get up and grab a fork to eat the sausage with. I decide to send a response to Annabelle and says, ‘Glad you’re enjoying yourself. I love ya too. And enjoy your school supple shopping. I’m sure that’ll be fun. 😘’ I stab a sausage with my fork and take a bite out of it, nice and juicy.
Once I finish lunch I stick my plate and the fork into the dish washer then I head back to my room to grab my purse. I put my sneakers on and head out the door, locking it behind me. I take out my phone and call for a cab, asking to be picked up at this address.
A few minutes later a cab pulls up and I get inside. I tell them to take me to the mall then I buckle up and they drive off. It only takes a couple minutes because my aunt’s house is close to the mall. I pay the driver and get out of the car.
I walk through the front doors of the mall and head to the most stylish clothing store they have there.
A woman walks up to me and says, “Can I help you find something?”
“No thank you. I’m just looking for a new outfit to wear for my photoshoot tomorrow. I can find it on my own. But thanks for the offer,” I tell her, walking passed to look at the dresses hanging on the racks in the back. I scan through the hangers till I stop on a green dress that’s off the shoulder, tight at the top and flowy at the bottom. I take it off the rack and head to the changing area to try it on.
I walk into a changing stall, close and lock the door behind me then I start stripping off my shirt and shorts. I hang the dress on the back of the door than pull it off the hanger and step into it. I then turn and look in the full length mirror that was against the wall in the room. I smile at myself as I move my hair over my shoulder. “This is just what I need. If really brings out the green in my eyes.” I take the dress off and put it back onto the hanger then I quickly put my clothes back on and leave the changing room with the dress in my hand.
I make my way over to the registers where I had to wait in line behind a few people who were also buying clothes. Some of them had a bunch of items, they must be starting a new wardrobe. I spot some nice jewelry in the line up that would look nice with the dress and pick them up. A dangling gold bracelet, and a green pendant heart shaped necklace with a gold chain.
Once I reach the check out I put my stuff down and they start scanning it. “Your total will be 87.69,” they tell me, looking at the computer screen.
I take my debit card out of my purse and stick it into the interact machine, I click all the right button options then put in my pin. Once it goes through as completed they put my stuff into a bag and hands it off to me.
“Have yourself a pleasant day,” they tell me, letting go of the bag.
“Thanks, you too.” I take the bag and head off, next to a shoe store to find shoes that will go with this dress.
As I walking into the shop I spot the perfect pair of shoes and run over to them, looking to see if they were in my size. They’re lacy small thick heeled shoes and they’re the same colour as my dress. I pick them up and look at the bottom then I take my shoe off and try it on, it’s a perfect fit. I guess that was meant to be. I take up the second shoe and head to the register with no one in the line up. I set the shoes on the counter and say, “All set.”
The man behind the counter looks at the shoes and says, “These were the display shoes, do you happen to know how much they were?”
“I’ll go check,” I say, turning around to go back where I got them. I grab a random show box that was underneath where they were and head back to the counter, placing the box down.
He picks up the box and looks inside. “These shoes are the same size as the ones on display so I’ll just give you the ones in the box,” he tells me, closing the box up. Then he scans the box and tells me the total amount.
I take out my debit card, put it into the machine, bunch in my pin and take it out once it says complete.
The man hands me off the shoe box and leaves the register to put the shoes back that I had taken.
I put my shoes into the bag with my dress and head out of the store. That didn’t take me long at all. Maybe I should get some new makeup too. I’ve been using the old stuff for a long time. With that thought I heard to a makeup store.
When I walk into the store a woman comes over to me and says, “Can I help you with something today.”
I look at her, she’s a pretty woman and looks like she knows a thing or two about makeup. “Yes, actually. I’m looking for a new set of makeup that would look good on me and match my green ensemble, which brings out the green in my eyes,” I tell her, pulling my dress up so she could see the colour.
“Of course. I can certainly help you find what you’re looking for, just follow me this way,” she tells me, walking off to an aisle of makeup. She picks out a powder eye shadow pallet and hands it to me, she then grabs a dark brown eye liner and hands that to me. Walks a bit away and grabs a blush that’s rosy coloured, handing that to me. Then she grabs a mascara that’s black and puts it into my hands. “This should be all that you need. You have a beautiful face so you don’t need anything but the basics. Though you would look lovely in a deep red lip. One second.” She runs over to the aisle where the lipstick is and pulls one out, rather than handing it to me she takes it to the checkout.
With all this stuff in my hands I feel like I’m going to drop something. I don’t even know what colors are in this pallet of eye shadow she handed me. Since there were a few registers and only a couple people ahead of me it didn’t take long for me to get up to the counter. I set my stuff down and the woman who had been helping me puts the lipstick with the pile of products I had placed on the counter.
She rings everything up and puts it into a tiny bag. Then she turns the screen that tells you the total and it reads ’96.75’ s**t, that is a lot of money for a few makeup items.
Whatever. I’ll get it anyways. I take out my card and pay for the makeup then I put it back in my wallet and take the bag. “Thank you very much,” I tell her as I turn away to leave.
She comes around from the counter and says, “You don’t want to try it on before you leave. Just to see how it all looks? We have mirrors here in the shop.”
I look at her and back into my bag. “I guess I could do that.” I walk away from the register area and head over to the mirrors along the aisles. One by one I put the makeup on, using the makeup brushes they had for people to test products. Once I’m done I take out the lip stick and open it up. That is a dark red lips stick with a similar shade to what I usually wear. I roll it out and carefully put it onto my lips. Then I close my lips and rub them together to make sure it’s spread evenly around my lips. I walk away and smile at the imagine in front of me.
“I knew there was a gorgeous girl hiding under that tomboy look,” the woman says, smiling at me. “Thank you for trusting me to find your makeup. I hope you like it.”
“I do. Thank you very much,” I tell her with a smile. Then I turn around and walk out of the store. I’ve been going around the mall for awhile now. And I’m starting to get hungry so I should grab something to eat before a leave.
I decide on pizza and grab a couple of slices of bacon and hamburger pizza then I sit down at a table to eat it.
A guy sits down at the empty chair across from me and crosses his arms on the table in front of him, leaning forward to look at me. “Hey there doll. I just noticed you there and couldn’t keep my eyes off you. I was wondering….”
I cut him off there, “Sorry guy, but I’m not interested at all. Nothing against you as a person. I just don’t like guys. I’m a girls girl, sorry.” I take a bite of my pizza and look away from him.
“Seriously? A gorgeous girl like you outta be with a man. Not a girl,” he says, furiously. “That just ain’t right.” He gets up from the table and storms off.
I just shake my head and keep eating my pizza. It’s because of guys like him that I don’t like wearing makeup. It always attracts the wrong kind of attention.
I finish up my pizza, wipe my mouth with the napkin I had gotten and get up from the table. I take out my phone and see that it’s now one in the afternoon. I got a call from my aunt and I missed it. I call her back as I head towards the exit.
“Rose! So glad you called me back. Are you still at the mall? I got everything finished and sorted out. I am now free of my company and I’m a billionaire. I got done about an hour ago. Did you need me to pick you up?”
“I just finished up here so if you could it would save me getting a cab. I’d much rather ride with you in your beautiful purple car,” I tell her while smiling.
“Alright then. I’ll be right over. Just meet me at the front entrance of the mall. I shouldn’t be long.” She hangs up the phone, ending the call.
I head straight for the front entrance and lean against the wall. I decide to take a selfie and send it to Annabelle. ‘Hey pretty lady, I got some new makeup and tried it on. What do you think?’ attach photo and send.
My phone dings right away, ‘Wow, bomb just went off, so gorgeous Rose, but you’re always beautiful and don’t you forget it.’
I smile, reading those words. Anyone could say I’m beautiful or gorgeous but it means the most when she says it. I just wish she was into woman like me. Daniel is so friggin lucky!
Soon enough my aunt pulls up to the curb, smiling and waving at me to get in the car.
If I didn’t know her I would think she was a child predator the way she’s smiling and waving me in. I laugh at that thought. My aunt is so sweet. Should could never be that kind of person. I get into the car with my bags and close the door. Then I put my seatbelt on, placing my bags on the floor.
“How did your shopping trip go? It looks like you got a lot of stuff,” Guinevere asks as she pulls away from the curb and drives out of the parking lot.
“I did. It was fun, for sure. I would’ve enjoyed it more if Annabelle was with me. We always have fun together… Some guy tried picking me up at the food court just because I was wearing makeup. Some guys are real sickos. I wanted to kick him after the s**t he said to me. But I just ignored him and went on eating my pizza,” I tell her, sounding pissed.
“I’m sorry that happened to you hun, but you did the right thing. It’s never right to hit anyone no matter what they did,” she tells me, focusing on the road.
“I know. It just ruined my whole experience at the mall today. Part of me felt like he was going to grab my pizza and shove it in my face. He was so angry that I’m a lesbian. He says gorgeous women like me should be with men like him not some girl he told me it wasn’t right. And stormed off.” I tell her, looking down at my bags.
“Well he’s the one that was wrong. We don’t choose our preference it’s just the way we’re hard wired to feel. And no one can change that. Not ever,” she tells me, placing her hand on my back.
Not long after that we get back home. Guinevere pulls into the driveway, opens up the garage and drives into it, closing the door once inside. We both get out of the car and head into the house where Guinevere tells me all about what happened in her meeting and I tell her all that went on at the mall today.
