24 NoraThe leather soles on Nora’s sandals slapped the broad sunwashed sidewalk. The noontime temperature was a mellow seventy-five. She wore a sleeveless gray-green blouse over a denim skirt. The cloudless sky was pale blue and May sun heated the bare skin on her arms and legs and the tops of her feet. She’d spent yesterday on the moist gray side of the state.
