Aria’s POV
"Let me get that straight." Max was now fully dressed as she took a seat in the living room.
"Sole Red is in Ravenwood. That, too, with his mate. And he will be staying in the same house with his ex and current girlfriend."
Kia nodded, while I just tried to soak in everything she had just said.
"Now, that’s something I would pay to watch, and that too, LIVE, right here in our house."
Max commented as she eyed Jason, who had just walked in from the kitchen with four cups of what smelled like hot chocolate.
"That is very insensitive, Maxi," Jacob scolded her. "Aria is right here."
"OK, Daddy," Maxi mocked Jacob.
Anyway, I am sorry, Aria. I was not trying to taunt you. I know it’s unfair to you, but you've got to agree that this is quite dramatic. It is almost like I am watching a movie, and all this is a part of some plot."
Max’s statement might have sounded offensive to some, but I knew it was how she was. Also, for me, it hit a different note, making me wonder if all this was a mere coincidence.
"I will not be surprised if it is actually a plot; nothing is too far-fetched when it comes to the Reds."
Jason warned her as he handed us the steaming cups of hot chocolate.
"Knowing the Reds the way I do, I can tell you that they have a high appetite when it comes to drama."
Of course, Jacob’s pack was one of the satellite packs of the Red Pack. And come to think of it, it was Alpha Red who had introduced me to Alpha Azuro, Jacob’s dad.
"I think I have met your dad once," I told Jacob. "It was at Alpha Red’s office. No wait, maybe it was on Alpha Red’s birthday."
"You might have met him on both occasions." Jacob rolled his eyes.
"My father is Alpha Red’s devotee. He is always around the Reds. He was even there at your infamous engagement party."
Cowering at the mention of my engagement party, I clung hard to my pipping cup of hot chocolate, making it my safety net.
I really wished that people would have forgotten about it already, like it never happened. But I knew that with Sole and Rhea here now, that was unlikely to happen.
"Were you there as well?" Kia asked Jacob, "With your father, at that wretched engagement party?"
"I hate to burst your bubble, but I am not a groupie," Jacob joked. "Besides, I can’t stand Reds. They are just publicity-hungry."
"Thank goddess for that," Max remarked. "I can’t imagine Jacob running behind Sole like a mindless puppy."
"If you ask me, you should be glad that you are not with Sole," Jacob stated as he turned to look at me.
That was a strong statement to make, and that to someone who you had met an hour ago.
From his expressions, I knew he meant every word.
Agreed, the Reds were publicity-obsessed, but that could not have been the only reason for Jacob’s dislike. There was definitely more to the story.
"I second that, Aria," Kia chipped in.
"All of that is great, guys, but that doesn’t change the fact that Sole Red and Omega Rhea will be coming to live here with us, at just about any time."
The words had not even left Max’s mouth when we heard the main iron gate open.
Damn! They were here already.
"Just one thing, Max," Jacob called to her as she got up to open the door. "We two have to be careful in front of the Reds. They can’t know about us."
The emphasis on ‘us’ was unmissable. And honestly, even I wanted to know what was this us they were referring to? What was really going on between them anyway?
Right now, that was not important, right now I needed to figure out how to face Sole and Rhea. Everything was too raw right now, and I was still a little hung over, so there was only one thing to do. Ignore them.
Before the door opened, I walked out of the living room and into my room in an attempt to make myself scarce.
My original plan was to request a change of flat, but that would have only reflected badly on me. The daughter of Alpha White could not be seen running away.
The only option that I could think of was to avoid crossing paths with them.
I was just not interested in a repeat of today.
But all my plans went out the window when Sole came knocking at my door.
"Aria, Aria, can we talk, please?" He asked as he knocked on my door, but I chose to play deaf.
"Aria, I have been trying to call you and message you. Why have you not been responding?"
Did he expect me to reply to that? Because we had broken up, duh!
"Come on, Aria, open the door," Sole continued to knock.
I was hoping that if I did not indulge Sole, he would let me be. But my silence only strengthened his resolve.
"Aria, you can’t ignore me forever, you will have to hear me out," he was insistent.
Since my silent treatment was not working on him, I decided to try to reason with him instead.
"Sole, there is no point in all of this. Also, I am really tired and would like to rest. Can you please just leave me be."
"No, we need to speak Aria, please." Sole continued to insist, "And that too now. I am not leaving your doorstep till you open the door."
This was all unnecessary. And the goddess knew I did not want to be a part of any of this.
If Sole was not ready to give up, the only way out for me was to slip out of the back door of my room.
That was it. I had to get away from the house, away from Sole, and away from all the drama that was brewing here.
All I wanted was some distance; after all, that was one of the reasons why I had come here all the way to Ravenwood, instead of attending Red School.
Sole was sure to follow me out once he realised that I was no longer in the room.
Keeping that in mind, I kept walking in the back lanes of the houses, hidden from common sight, not to mention the press that was out and about town.
My head was going haywire from all the recent events. My life had been so perfect until a few days ago, and now it seemed like the universe had it out for me.
And on top of that, the stress of these media folks.
I did not want fame, all this publicity, or a position. All I wanted to be was a normal girl, just Aria White.
The second that thought crossed my mind, I realised that that was the issue. There was nothing normal about being Aria White, the heir of one of the Original families.
Changing my parents or family is not what I would ever want to do, but maybe we could be more secluded like the Ravens. We didn't need to be in the public eye 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
But it was not always like this.
We were never reclusive like the Ravens, but my parents did keep us more guarded and not as much in the media.
My father was still in the papers because of his work and position, but we never opened our homes and personal lives to them.
This all started when I and Sole got close, even before we started dating. Reds had always been far more media-friendly than us, always in the public eye.
It was Alpha Red who wanted Sole and I to become these sources of authority and influence in our world.
And that is when all this madness started for me and my parents. I would be lying if I said that I did not enjoy it in the beginning—the attention, the power, the excitement.
But now all I wished for was a quiet, private life to hide away.
Right at that time, an unusual fragrance hit my nostrils as I walked into a garden of the rare and almost extinct, Angel Trumpets.
It was ironic that I was just thinking about hiding away from the world, and now I was standing in the middle of a garden of flowers that were believed to mask werewolf scents from the world around them, keeping them hidden.
Maybe it was the Goddess’s way of keeping me hidden from the reporters who were circling around like vultures. Giving me a few quiet moments before I had to go face the storm.
Sitting on the bench in the middle of the garden, I closed my eyes and rejoiced in the peace that I had been awarded.
Not worrying about anyone or anything.
"What do you think you are doing here?"
The husky voice startled me, robbing me of these fleeting calm moments.
"Don’t you know this is trespassing?"
Tress passing?
No way; this was right in the middle of the city, and there were no gates or anything. How was I to know that this was private property?
"You look like a student here; do you want me to complain to the dean?"
Goddess! I did not want another thing to worry about, not today anyway.
Thanks to the Angel Trumpets that surrounded me, I could not scent anyone, which also meant that the person was not right behind me. Because, as far as I knew, the Angels Trumpets only dispelled your scent at a distance, they did not work if two people were close enough.
Maybe I could just make a run for it, and avoid dealing with this altogether.
Not in the mood for another issue to deal with, I dashed from the garden, taking advantage of the distance between me and the guard, and for a second there, I thought I had gotten away.
Only to be grabbed roughly from behind, seconds later, by a strong arm that swept me off the ground.
"Let me down now," I yelled at him, letting my elbows bruise the hard surface against my back.
The man spun me over and slammed my back against the rough bark of a tree, his body pressing against mine. As his beard tickled my neck, and his breath left a hot trail across my skin.
The delicious cedar and pine scent launched a full-blown attack on my senses. My eyes snapped up to look into the dark grey orbs, making a connection to the stranger that was staring at me.
"Mate."
And it was the second time in the day that I felt the mate bond snap into place.
Our bodies were inches apart, arched against each other, manifesting a sizzling energy between us.
My heart raced from our closeness and his intoxicating scent that I was inhaling by the gallon like my life depended on it.
Mesmerized by his raven hair, midnight grey eyes, and, prickly beard, I barely even had time to register what was happening.
His expression was unreadable, but the hunger in his stormy grey eyes enlightened something deep in my core.
Just the kind of reaction I was expecting this morning when I met that dark devil in the bar.
The handsome hunk in front of me, who adorned the two-piece suit like a second skin, gave me enough time to take in his Alpha boss demeanor before he slammed his lips to mine, right outside the garden.
Refraining my mind from pondering on the fact that I had two mates
His tongue continued to thrust into my mouth, tasting me, biting me, and kissing me. He poured every ounce of his desire into that kiss, consuming me whole.
Picking me up, he wrapped both my legs around his hard abdomen as my hands went around his neck, locking myself onto his hard frame for dear life.
It was like my body was syncing with his demands.
One of his hands slid in at the back of my jeans, caressing my round ass in a circular motion before digging his fingers into them and closing the distance between our bodies.
"Ah," I groaned into his mouth, as my core throbbed at the sensation.
The intensity of his touch sent shivers down my spine, overwhelming me with a mixture of pleasure and anticipation. I surrendered myself completely to the moment, eagerly craving more of his intoxicating presence.
Meanwhile, his other had found its way below my top, moving across my waist towards my ample bosom, leaving a sizzling trail of desire wherever it touched.
I arched my back at the feeling of his fingers across my bare skin, wordlessly begging for his touch to consume me entirely.
It was not that I had no physical experience before, but I had never experienced such an intense and immediate physical response. My encounters with Set were not close to this by any standard.
Goddess! It was as if every nerve in my body was electrified, craving more of his touch.
I was drunk with arousal, and that too in broad daylight.
He might be my mate, but this was insane; we were right outside, just a few meters away from the main road.
Not to forget that he was practically a stranger.
All my concerns went down the drain the minute his calloused fingertips ran over my lacey bra and touched my n****e pads.
My n*****s hardened under his touch.
His skilled fingers teased and caressed my heated skin, igniting a fire within me that burned hotter with each passing second.
He hummed in appreciation as he groped my breasts.
"f**k, you are a Goddess!!"
I moaned in response, feeling a surge of desire coursing through my veins. The intensity of his touch and the way he worshipped my body made me forget all about the reservations that were clouding my mind just seconds ago.
The wetness that had started to pool in my panty, also initiated a new ache inside of me, one that demanded some friction. As if on demand, he re-adjusted my body, pressing his hardness further into my core, satiating my building desire.
I moaned as his d**k hit my covered spot through his trousers, matching his thrust to my loudly beating heart.
My mind was completely consumed by the overwhelming desire for him, and my senses were heightened by his touch.
His exploration of my body was relentless.
Be it thrusting his tongue into my mouth, working his magic fingers on assaulting my breasts that were now barely being held by the thin red lace bra, or probing my pleasure center with his rock-hard shaft.
He was working me up from every angle, intensifying my pleasure at all levels as he pushed my body toward ecstasy.
Before I could ride those high waves of pleasure, a wave of reality crashed down upon us as a female's voice infiltrated our hearing zone, bursting our hot bubble.
"Isn't this Z's car?" that melodious voice asked someone.
"Someone's here," I blurted out as I broke our kiss.
It was clear that the woman was not close by, and all thanks to the Angel trumpets, she would not have been able to scent our arousal either, but I did not want anyone to walk in with us.
And what if she was with the press?
"f**k!" my mate exclaimed as the reality of an intruder dawned upon him.
"That's my wife."
Wife? Did I hear it correctly? He said that was his wife.
He was married?
