Twice in a Week! That was my rejection streak.
Gulping my gin down, I thought about how bad luck had literally become my best friend.
I had found my mate, the one that the moon goddess herself had chosen for me—the other half of my soul and being. And he had turned out to be a complete prick. A hot one at that, but a prick nonetheless.
Was this what I truly deserved?
Our interaction in the men’s room was the most humiliating thing ever.
‘I do not want you as my mate.’ His last words rang clear in my mind.
The idea that he thought I would be interested in being his mate at all, after the way he treated me, was appalling.
My traitorous body challenged my claim, as I still relished the feeling of his touch and the harshness of his way, one that made my body buzz from all the arousal. My heart might have been shattered, but my body had a different story to tell.
Damn, the mate bond; this was not going to be easy. Though both my wolf and I were also adamant that we would not give into it.
Bluemoon was a whole five months away, which meant five more months before I could reject him and get on with my life.
See, there was a plan. Forget about that useless mate for now, and then reject him on Bluemoon and get on with life.
Everything was going to be OK, except I did not even know his name.
That asshole did not even have the courtesy to tell me his name before he informed me that he did not want me.
There was no point in wasting my time thinking about him right now; I could just find his name close to the Bluemoon.
Hoping to keep the whole thing under wraps, I decided it was best that I did not talk about him or tell anyone about him.
There was no way to avoid this heartbreak, but I could try to save myself from a public one at least.
It was already too painful; I did not need it to be more humiliating as well.
I could just picture what the headlines would be if the media got a hint of all this.
Two Mates. Two Rejections.
Damn it! I was not ready for a repeat of Sole. This had to be a secret.
I just hoped that he would not go on blabbering about it, boasting to the world that he had rejected me, leaving me high and dry.
Gulping down my fifth drink, I waited for Kia to come back, hoping to drown the pain that was festering deep inside.
Half an hour later, a tipsy me and Kia were back in the car on our way to university.
"What a great start, Aria! Day 1, and you have already broken your dad’s rules. That was a quick journey from a glass of beer to five gins!" Kia scolded me.
"Oh, please," I scowled back at Kia, "you are the one to talk. You just disappeared there with that girl. I mean, you were gone for a good hour. What was I supposed to do? How else was I supposed to kill time?"
Trying my best to hide the real reason for my drinking, I decided to go for the b***h move as I turned the tables on my own best friend.
"And who was that girl, by the way? Why didn’t you tell me about her Kia? And I didn’t know you were into girls." I blabbered in an attempt to avoid bawling my eyes out.
This was a low blow, but I needed Kia out of my hair immediately. And keep her from figuring out that, even though she was my best friend, I was not ready to confide in her.
Just as I had intended the question, I silenced Kia for a few minutes and got her off my back.
"Don’t be judgmental, Aria." Kia went all defensive.
"She was just a fling; no one important. And no, I am not into girls, it was just a one-off thing."
"So, that is what she was, a fling with whom you had disappeared for an hour?" I sniffed the air, telling her I could smell s*x on her.
Kia too had an eventful hour; I was just glad that at least she had a happy ending, literally.
"Don’t be such a prude, Aria!" Kia snapped, and rightfully so; I had earned it.
"This is college, and not everyone has found their mates, and some of us do not want to either."
"Sorry, I am sorry. You know I didn’t mean it like that." I was guilt-ridden.
"I know Aria, I know. Just remember, this is Ravenwood; they are not that stuck up about s*x here." Kia continued talking.
Now, that was interesting.
"I am sure that was one of the reasons why Uncle Jack did not want you to come here." Kia chuckled.
"Trust me, there is no harm in having some fun."
Probably that was what I needed to do. Just go out and have fun. The idea did feel a little awkward since I was not the fling type, and neither did I have much experience other than Sole.
Kia was right. This is what I needed to move on from both of those jerks.
At least it would just make the whole rejection a little easier to deal with and ease out the ache that was creating havoc in between my legs.
"Here we are!" Kia called out, pulling me out of my thoughts and pointing outside the window. "This is the main Ravenwood campus."
It was not as much a campus as it was a small town. A town made of layers, and in the very middle of the circle was a huge old Gothic-style building, surrounded by huge grounds on all sides, and then a series of what looked like hundreds and hundreds of townhouses. The last layer was the market hub that surrounded the whole town.
"The large building is the main university area," Kia pointed to the auditorium-type building.
"All around it are the dorm houses and the faculty houses. And the dorm houses. You know the whole town is made in concentric circles."
"We are going to have so much fun!" Kia shrilled in my ears as we drove to our dorm flat.
"Oh! Yes, we so are." I screamed back with equal enthusiasm, challenging the pain of rejection that had gripped my heart.
A weird sound welcomed me as I entered our dorm house, one that we were supposed to share with four other people.
It sounded like someone could not breathe, and it was coming from what looked like the kitchen.
"Goddess Kia, I think someone is choking," I told Kia, who was right behind me, as I rushed to the kitchen.
"No, Aria, wait," Kia tried to warn me as I rushed to the kitchen.
Once inside, I was greeted by more explicit noises, which were far from choking, and a visual that dispelled any doubts that I may have had.
There were three of them: two boys and a girl.
The red-haired girl was bent over the L-shaped kitchen counter, with her petite body out on display, as one of the boys drilled into her p***y at a feverous pace.
The blond boy on the opposite side of the counter was pulling and pinching her breasts while he f****d her mouth with his big pink c**k.
The room was lit with their scents of arousal, buzzing with a mix of choking and moaning sounds from the girl, that was accompanied by the deep moans from the boys.
Kia’s point about s****l freedom was being drilled home right in front of my eyes, like literally.
All three of them had seen us enter the room, but none of them attempted to stop their carnal activity.
Not that I minded.
My body was already heightened from earlier and all the alcohol. And all this only brought back the raw undealt need from earlier, as my body yearned for a release.
It seemed like everyone was getting some today, apart from me.
"We are so sorry; we will excuse ourselves," Kia muttered, breaking my trance.
Before Kia could drag me away, the boy who was in the girl’s mouth turned to look at us as the following words left his mouth.
"Oh! That’s no worry. Stay."
Stay? What did he mean by stay?
Before I could overthink the ‘invitation to stay’, the girl freed her mouth of a rather large tenant and spoke.
"Hey, we are so sorry about all of this," she said, a little embarrassed, as she struggled to catch her breath.
"No, it’s our fault. We should have knocked," Kia blurted.
Knocked, to enter the doorless kitchen? Couldn’t Kia come up with something better?
"Uh, I am Max, by the way, from the Night Shadow pack," she introduced herself as she wiggled her way out of the other boy.
"Hey, I am not done," the boy called out to her as she unattached her body from his, leaving his large, erect member out in the open.
"And that matters why?" Max raised an eyebrow.
"I have come, and that should be enough." She said as she covered her body with a robe and turned to face us.
Now that I could get a better look at her face, I realised I knew who she was.
"Hi! I think we have met before, at an event." My tipsy tongue began blabbing on its own.
Our families weren’t close, but I knew that she was the daughter of Alpha Enzo of the Night Shadow Pack. They were a small pack that emerged as a satellite pack of the Raven Pack.
"You remember!" She seemed surprised at that.
"Why wouldn’t I?" It was not my intention to say that out loud.
"I am Aria, by the way, from the White pack." I introduced myself while we were at it.
"It’s cute that you think that people don’t know you. You have always been famous, and may I say more so in the past two weeks. No offense," Max said flat out without mincing her words.
"None taken," I answered back with full honesty.
I liked Max; she was straight as an arrow and not one of those who would say s**t behind your back.
"Hi, I am Kia, we are from the same pack," Kia told her, pointing towards me.
"Again, sorry for just barging into the kitchen; you know you should continue; we will go."
"It’s nice to meet you, Kia," Max said, ignoring Kia’s efforts to excuse her and me from the kitchen.
She then turned towards the blond boy, who was now wearing a pair of shorts, "And this here is Jacob."
"Hi! And sorry for earlier. We will be more careful about it." Jacob gave us a playful smile.
"He is the to-be alpha of those Red Shadow idiots." There was clear disdain in her voice as she mentioned Jacob’s pack.
Of course, the Night Shadow Pack and the Red Shadow Pack were rivals.
While all the wars had ended ages ago with the commencement of the Alpha Council, these two still held their share of grudges.
In fact, from what I knew, the two Alphas, who would be Max and Jacob’s fathers, did not even speak to each other in the Alpha meetings and councils.
"And this here is….uh, sorry, what did you say your name was? Actually, forget it; it does not matter."
"Do you guys want to chat more over coffee?" Max offered.
"We would love to," I accepted her invitation before Kia got a chance to say anything.
‘Aria, you need to sleep this off.’ Kia mind linked me.
‘I am fine; don’t be a bummer.’
‘Fine, wait till the hangover hits you.' Kia commented through the mind link as we sat down for coffee.
******
Half an hour later, I was splashing my face with water in an attempt to ease the effects of the alcohol. Instead, the ringing in my head just got worse.
Kia was right. It was awful when the buzz from the alcohol turned into a hangover.
Kia was still with Max and Jacob, while I was holed up in the bathroom trying to calm the incessant drumbeat that echoed within their skulls, making my senses go into overdrive.
Oh, Goddess! What was I even thinking?
Getting drunk on day 1 of college, was definitely not one of my best ideas.
I was in such a bad state that I could not even discern if the ever-increasing uproar was from inside my head or from outside. I
It took me a couple of more splashes to realize that this commotion was centered not only outside my head but outside my room.
My mind started to focus on the sounds that were very rudely interrupting my attempt to sober down.
The clicking of the camera, the echo of the microphone, and the reporters shouting at the top of their voices—the paparazzi were back.
Damn, these reporters. How had they even figured out where I was staying?
‘Sole-Aria, Sole-Aria.’
That did not sound right.
Damn the alcohol; I must be hallucinating.
Sole-Aria, Sole-Aria…..
The chanting outside continued.
Sole-Aria, Sole-Aria…..Sole-Rhea, Sole-Rhea
It took my alcohol-dazed mind some time to figure out that the reporters were not calling for ‘Sole and Aria’.
Instead, they were saying ‘Sole and Rhea’.
