Kai POV
After getting my sister settled in, we decided we needed to go shopping for the rest of the stuff needed. I’d never had anywhere to call home since college, but I’d been riding for the MC all over the country, getting paid the big bucks. I had Indie make a list of what she and Bear needed. Then I had to ask the little man how he wanted to decorate his room.
“DINOSAURS!”
“What about outside? Do you want a sandbox? Or a swing set? What about your own tree house? That tree in the backyard in pretty big and sturdy.”
“Okay!” He said all excited, then asked something that broke my heart. “What’s all that stuff for Uncle Kai?”
“To play with buddy. Did you not have that at your house with dad?” He shook his head.
“Dad made me stay in my room when he was home. Mom and I used to go to the park if it was a good day, and he wasn’t going to come home. We would even have ice cream from the ice cream place those times.”
That hurt. My piece of s**t brother-in-law couldn’t, no. Wouldn’t. He wouldn’t give Bear anything fun. What an asshole.
“Well, how about you come with me? We can pick out all of it together. Mommy has to go to the doctor for a check-up. It’s going to be a while, so we can go get the stuff we need. Sound good? We can make it a surprise for Mommy!” I smiled really big at him, and he looked excited also.
“OKAY!”
Dropping Indie off at the clubhouse with Hades, he promised nothing would happen to her, and he’d be there the whole time while Doc gave her a thorough check. She needed x-rays, her stitches checked, her feet cleaned and new bandages applied.
“We’ll be back. Don’t worry, he’ll be safe with me.” I smiled at her, and Indie just nodded. She looked nervous about us leaving, but she knew we’d have fun and be safe. It was like watching a wild animal be separated from her baby with another member of her pack she hadn't seen in years after suffering alone all that time. It was hard, but she knew things would be okay.
Indie gave me a nod, before looking at Hades. He gave her that tiny, upturned lips smile. It was weird seeing him smile. He was always the brooding type that women fell over. He was handsome, if I did say so myself. But, come to think of it, I'd never seen him with anyone. Interesting.
I got Bear into his car seat, and we headed out to one of the stores along the strip that had all the outside play equipment set up outside as models. Walking around, Bear was in awe at all the stuff available. Finally, we decided to get a custom-built one. The guys would be out later that week to build him a tree house on the one lone tree. It would have a trap door, a hiding space at Bear’s insistence (because he needed it for hide and seek like they played at school), a slide, rock wall, rope to climb down, a telescope, and a sandbox underneath with a lid.
The next stop was Target. I knew Indie loved that store. They had the Gaines 'Harth and Hand' collection there, which had always been her favorite. Very minimal, but stylish. We bought everything dinosaur they had for Bear. Then we picked out my bedding, plain blue and gray. For Indie, Bear picked out everything white with colorful pillows and different colored sheets and fuzzy blankets for the house.
We also grabbed more clothes for all of us while we were there, some groceries, and a ton of books and toys for Bear. I also tossed in a couple of parenting books for me to read, so I can help Indie better with Bear, and a couple of self-help books for Indie, if she wants to read them.
With the truck loaded up, we headed back to the compound. Every inch of space in my truck bed and cab was loaded down with stuff. Pulling up to the house, Bear had fallen asleep hugging his new stuffed t-rex that was just about as big as he was. I pulled out my phone and called Hades.
“Hey man. You home? Indie here? Just pulled in the drive. Mind giving me a hand, and possibly letting me use your washer? I got a lot to unpack and wash.”
“Sure am. Boomer and I will be over in a few. Indie’s taking a walk with your dad. He’s decided he’s moving into one of the upstairs bedrooms at your place for the time being.”
I started unloading the cab, so I could get Bear tucked in bed. Willow was great at making sure the furniture was set up, and we had some basics, but I wanted this to feel like home for them. Because it would be. At least for the next two years, we get Indie on her own two feet. Maybe longer, if that blush, she keeps giving Hades was any indication.
Reid/Hades POV
Boomer and I made our way over to help unload Atlas’ truck. As I came out, I saw Atlas carrying a sleeping Bear inside. The cab looked like there were only a few things left, so I made my way to the bed of the truck, opening the tailgate. Opening that up, I couldn’t even see to unlock the tonneau cover it was so full. Did he buy the whole damn store?
“Hey. Thanks for the help, I think we might have got a bit carried away.”
“Nah, you guys are moving in for the first time. You need lots of stuff.” I try to reason for needing this much. Most of what I'm carrying in looks like toys and activities to do with Bear.
“Yeah. I have more stuff coming throughout the week. There’s a tree house being built on Thursday. I’ve also ordered a bunch more stuff from sss like security cameras, motion sensors and trail cameras to put on the back side of the fence in case anyone tries to come in that way.”
“Covering all your bases I see.” With two arms filled with items, I carried them inside. Most of it looked like bedding, some clothes. Lots more toys.
“Some of the toys I’m going to hide in my closet until Bear’s birthday in a couple of months. But I need to get this stuff washed and put around the house. I also ordered a bigger couch so we can all snuggle and do movie nights. That will be delivered on Thursday also.”
“I’ll take whatever you need over to my place to start it.” He handed me three bags with sheets and blankets. Boomer stayed to sniff out the place and all the bags. After starting the washer, I headed back, grabbing more stuff out of the back of that truck. It seemed we’d finally reached the bottom of the barrel, so to speak. Atlas was filling up the fridge and cupboards with food, dishes and any stuff Indie, or he would need to cook. He even gave Bear his own cupboard where all of his stuff was. It was sweet.
I grabbed more of the clothes, and started to put just Bear’s things in the washer here. If anyone else would have walked in and seen two big bikers being all domestic, they probably would have thought they ended up in the wrong dimension, but Indie and River just laughed.
“What can I do to help?” Indie asked once she'd regained some of her composure.
“See if the couch is comfy. I ordered a new one. It’s bigger and will be here on Thursday, but if you really like that one, I’ll cancel. I want movie nights out there like when we were kids.”
“Oh, then you’ll need a bigger one. That one will barely fit you and me, Kai,” River said, giving him a knowing look. “I’ll order some pizza. Where’s my grandson?”
“Sleeping. He picked out so much stuff today, that I think he wore himself out.”
“I’ll check on him.” Indie started to make her way slowly towards the stairs.
“No,” River said, reaching out towards her, but not touching her. “I’ll check. You heard what Doc said. Off those feet as much as possible until they’re healed, young lady.”
“Ugh. Fine.” Clearly not fine, but understanding.
I helped Atlas get everything washed and put away. I also helped him make his room and Indie’s room before Bear woke up. This was something I think I could get used to. Being around other people. They didn't ask questions or make me feel like I had to tell them what happened in my past, and I know Atlas knows it's something similar to Indiana's situation.
