Most people are born into loving families, the kind who buys their kids gifts for their birthdays or takes them on trips for no reason other than they wanted to. Not me, I was born into a family who never wanted me so at 2 years of age I was placed in a foster home abandoned by my family. But as soon as I was placed in I was adopted out to Katherine and Xavier Black. Being welcomed into the family was amazing and I now have an older brother Xander and a little sister Kimberly but everyone called her Kimmy for short.

Growing up with the pack was amazing. I knew this was where I belonged, When I was old enough my parents told me I was adopted but that didn’t matter because I knew they still loved me. After turning 18 our suspicions were true I was actually a wolf. I gained my wolf Serena the night of my 18th birthday and we clicked immediately. She was just like me in every way and I loved it.

Growing up my parents always treated me the same as Xander and made sure I always remembered I may be adopted but I was still their daughter and nothing else mattered, so I trained like I was blood and I was the daughter of an alpha. Training came easy for me so I was always paired with someone stronger than me most of the time it was Xander but I soon learned his ways and so I had to move to some of the others.

I never really wanted to be a fighter though I always wanted to help people so most of the time you would find me in the pack hospital with Dr. Bennett. I learned all I could about healing others and helping everyone out. That is when I knew I wanted to be a doctor so I started taking classes at a college in Jade city.

At first it was online classes so I can stay at home but soon I decided I wanted to go to classes and experience life as a true college student but Xander didn’t like that idea as he was worried something would happen and expose who I am. Yes he was alpha by now but I didn’t see the difference in living in Jade city or visiting it every weekend for drinks so I was determined to tell him what I wanted.

Walking into his office felt different this time because I didn’t want to fight again but things were heated at breakfast if it wasn’t for Alaia I’m sure it would’ve ended in a fight. Before I could knock I heard his voice “come in Leila” I could hear the annoyance but I sigh and walk in anyways. As I walked in I noticed he was alone so I closed the door and moved to his desk and sat. We sit in silence for a while before I let out a sigh “Xander please let me go I don’t like doing online classes and it would be better for me to move to the city so I am not driving to class everyday I promise I will behave and not do anything reckless and stupid.” He sits back and sighs “I thought we were dropping this matter Leila” “No you were dropping the matter but I know what I want and that is to be a doctor and it would be easier for me to go to class not do everything online please mom and dad both said I could go now why are you being so stubborn” he sits up “because I don’t want anything to happen to you Leila” I look at him shocked. I stand and walk around his desk and hug him tight “nothing will happen I promise big brother” I whisper he stands and hugs me back “ok then you can go but only if you let me pay for your apartment.” I smile happily and nod “deal”

That was 6 years ago. I have now finished 4 years of my undergraduate program and now I am working on my 2nd year in medical school before I move to my residency program at the local General Hospital. Life is pretty amazing. I have made some great friends here in Jade city, along with the new ladies back at the Packhouse. Everyone had found their mates and I was happy for them but I was still looking for mine…..wherever he may be. Anyways I had just finished class when my phone rings with a video call from Alaia I answer smiling “hey sis what’s up?” she looks at the phone clearly exhausted. She has to deal with 2 mates and all those children. I felt sorry for her. “What’s up? What’s up is your nephew’s are driving me insane please tell me you are on your way” I laugh softly “yeah I just finished my class so I need to grab my bag from my apartment then I will be over soon” I say as she sighs with relief “no….no Alex drop that” she says I laugh “I will let you handle that I’ll see you soon sis” I say as we hang up the call. I run to my apartment, grab my overnight bag then head out to the Packhouse.

It was only about an hour and half drive before I reached the edge of the border where patrols escorted me the rest of the way to the pack house. As soon as I step out of my car a swarm of children tackle me to the ground “AUNT LEILA!!!!” they yell in joy. I laugh softly “there’s my favorite kiddos” “did you bring us presents?” Angelica asks as I laugh softly “yeah did you?” Genesis asks I smile “you know I always bring you something but you have to wait till later to get them” “awww” they all frown I shake my head as everyone walks outside the kids move off me as I stand and wipe the dust off my jeans I smile and hug Xander “hey big brother” he hugs back smiling “hey sis how’s school?” I smile “oh you know it’s good just wish I could finish and move to residency already” I say then hug everyone else saying my hellos but one girl I didn’t quite recognize I look at her “hello I’m Leila….Leila Black” I offer my hand she looks at me before taking it “Rachel” she says I nod “ah your the angel girl cool” I let go of her hand and smile “so what’s for lunch I haven't eaten in 18 hours and I am starving” Xander laughs “you need to learn to eat better” he says as he grabs my bags I grab my laptop bag and some of my books “I am trying just get caught up in my studies I forget to function normally” I say and we head inside.

Lunch was entertaining as we sat around the table and talked and laughed while the kids did their own things I smile “I really have missed this I don't’ cook for myself so having home cooked food is amazing Mrs. Dyson you never seem to disappoint” I smile at her as she walks by and she nods “thanks Leila and it’s good to see you home again” I grin and go back to my eating listening to the conversations going around the table. “So Luca” I smile everyone goes quiet and looks at me “congrats on the triplets they are super cute” I smile he nods and smiles “thanks they definitely keep us busy” I nod “and Rachel you're an angel correct?” she nods “right and mate to Luca” she says as if I wanted him I laugh “oh honey I am not competition Luca is too young for me” I smirk Xander mind links me “don’t start anything” I look up at him “I’m not just trying to know more about the new girl she is the one who thinks I will take Luca *gag* as if sorry but the stone boys aren’t my type” he rolls his eyes “so Leila any new job offers from the hospital?” he asks, changing the subject. I laugh softly and shake my head “no none yet but I am sure after residency they will be flooding in. I'm very excited thinking of aiming more towards pediatrics. I like helping children more than adults.” I smile he nods “well if they don’t offer you anything you can always come work here we have plenty of children to take care of” I smile and nod “hey maybe I can open my own clinic here on campus” he nods “we can discuss that after you get your license” I laugh and nod “of course.” I smile, my phone rings, I check it and roll my eyes “Excuse me” I stand and walk away of course not out of earshot of anyone they listen in “what Jessica?” I say to the girl on the other line “oh good Leila you answered I have called you 5 times” “yes and I have ignored you 5 times I told you I was with family this weekend” she laughs “oh you mean adopted family? Your parents gave you up didn’t they?” I growl clenching my jaw “what do you want” she laughs “your notes from today's lecture” I scoff “no way ask Brad I am sure he has notes…..oh wait you guys were too busy making out to even take notes” I can hear her roll her eyes “fine then I will just tell everyone what you really are I am sure dear old alpha would appreciate that” I close my eyes “fine I will email them to you later” she smiles “great thanks so much wolfie” she says before hanging up I clench my fists I hear Xander clear his throat everyone quiet looking at me I turn and look at them I sit back down and sigh

“What was that?” Xander asks, lifting an eyebrow. I sigh “a girl in my class, she is a total B..” “what does she mean by she will tell everyone who you really are” he growls I look at him “I didn’t tell her if that is what you are implying” I cross my arms and sit back “she caught me in the woods after going for a run and she saw me shift she has known for a while and...well she uses it against me anytime I won’t let her cheat off of me or have my notes nothing I can do I have to protect us so I give her what she wants in return she doesn’t tell anyone who….or what I am.” He sighs “what all does she know?” “well she knows I’m a wolf and she knows I am in a pack but that’s it she doesn’t know anything else not the packs name, or ur names or anything I would rather her give up what I am then tell her anything else my duty is to help protect this pack and I will do that until the day I die Xander you know that I would never do anything to put this pack in harm's way.” He nods “I know Leila and we will find a way to keep her off of you I promise” I nod and finish my lunch.
