The Grave Robbers
Episode 2
Written by Charles N Okere
Wisdom and Solomon stood at the front of Desmond's magnificent gate, staring at his multimillion-naira mansion with open mouths. They knocked on the gate, and moments later, it was opened by a hefty, tall, mean-looking man holding a gun in one hand. They greeted him in unison, but he didn't utter a word, instead giving them a scary facial expression.
"Yes, how may I help?" he asked in a scary voice.
"We're here to see our friend Desmond," Solomon responded.
"Is he aware of you guys coming to see him today?
"Yes, he's aware of our coming; he was the one who asked us to come today," Solomon replied.
The security guard took a deep breath, asked them to wait at the gate, and closed it. He opened it again moments later and ushered them into the magnificent compound, stopping at a spot. Another hefty, tall bodyguard, also armed, took over and led them inside the house, which could be described as a royal castle. The house boasted the latest and most expensive interior designs, electrical gadgets, and beautiful artworks.
The bodyguard stopped at a spot, handing over to another bodyguard who led them to a sitting room fit for kings.
"Please, sit down," he said. "I'll go inform my boss." Minutes later, Desmond walked into the sitting room, accompanied by six hefty men with guns. Wisdom and Solomon stood up in unison and greeted him. Desmond smiled and hugged them.
They all sat down, and Desmond ordered the chefs to prepare something delicious for his visitors. He also instructed the housekeepers to fetch drinks and various wines from the fridge. As they drank, ate, and reminisced about the good old days, they eventually begged Desmond to reveal the source of his wealth and share the secrets of his success.
Desmond took a deep breath and asked if they truly wanted to know the mystery behind his wealth. They assured him they were eager to learn and willing to do whatever it took to achieve similar success. Desmond called one of his bodyguards over and whispered something in his ear. The bodyguard nodded and left the sitting room, returning moments later with a medium-sized calabash adorned with red and black fabric. He gently placed it on the table and stepped back.
Desmond requested that they take an oath of secrecy before he would reveal the secret behind his wealth. Although they found this request unusual, their desperation to escape poverty left them little choice but to comply. Desmond then revealed the truth about his riches, leaving them frozen in terror as they listened.
