Fair Warning

I was finally discharged but Cassandra had to stay, she was put under a medical induced coma so that her body may heal without repercussions. I was very hesitant to leave my wife in a hospital, and I still am, which is why I requested for her to be transferred at home, nurses will be living in for awhile to check up on her condition, doctors will visit everyday with their own time schedules. Medicine and all that is needed is brought in, I had people prepare the guest room. Had the sheets changed to her favorite ones and I kept the curtains parted in the early mornings because I knew she would've loved the morning sun. Pulling a comfortable cushioned chair next to her bed, I took her hand in mine. Her soft hands that had a certain coldness to them recently, I pulled her hand to my lips and placed a longing kiss. I longed to hear her voice again, her laugh when she watches Impractical Jokers on TV, the way her eyes twinkled when she looked at me hungrily. I longed to see my wife moving around the kitchen, even lounging in the living room. I missed her watching me dress up for work then her coming up to me, just to fix my tie properly and kiss me on the lips telling me she loved me. I longed for her. "Hey.." I whispered as I stared into her unconscious state, my hand unconsciously moving the hair away from her face. It looked like she was just asleep but there were tubes connected to her, her once fair skin looked deathly pale and I couldn't bare looking at her like this. "Don't keep me waiting, come back to me...." I sobbed, holding her hand tightly my sobs turned to cries, I kept mumbling I'm sorry but I knew she wouldn't hear it. A knock pulled me out of my moment, looking up I saw Oliver standing there and looking at me knowingly. "I can't leave her alone." I looked at him pleading, he smiled sadly and took a step back. "Mrs. Langley is here to visit." As soon as he said that, Darcy poked her head behind him and waved her hand while she smiled. I stood up and walked towards her, pulling her in a tight hug I cried. I heard her sigh and wrap her arms around me, patting and rubbing my back soothingly. "It's not your fault Logan, I know you. You're blaming yourself and you know deep down it really is not your fault." She leans her head against my shoulder and cried, she misses her the same as I. "Logan.." Another voice called, making me look up at Mason who stood by the doorway with a sad smile gracing his face. He came close and pulled me in a man hug, tapping my back repeatedly. "Cee is right, this isn't your fault man. We're going to make them pay." Mason's soft look turned stone hard, he was angry. Did they make the driver confess? "What do you mean?" I glared at Mason and he sighed, looking at his wife and Oliver he then turned his attention back to me. "We need to talk somewhere private." He walked out and I followed on suit and Oliver behind me. We ended up in my home office, Mason gestured me to take a seat and I did so behind my desk. Oliver handed some files over to Mason and he in return reviewed them for a second before placing them on my table, in front of me. Reading through that file, I was livid. I wanted to tear them to peaces. I am a man walking on hellfire, I glared at everyone who came my way. My secretary came asking for a signature on some papers. "Bring them to the office." I ordered her, calling on to my PA, I told her to contact all department managers for a meeting at 4pm. I just stayed in my office for a few hours in the morning and went out by lunchtime to pay a visit to a certain family. "Oliver, to the Russell's manor." I grunted and he started the car, looking out of the heavily tinted windows of my car I thought of Cassandra, was she doing any better today? I couldn't take just wondering on how she was, so I opted on calling Darcy. She answered on the second ring, sounding a little breathless. "Hello?" She breathed out and that enough made me frown. "Darcy? What's happening? Where are you?" I fired question after question.I felt restless and anxious and one wrong thing sets me on the edge. "Woah woah woah!! Slow down there buddy. I was just having my asthma attack just a few seconds ago." She sighed and hiccuped, Darcy and her asthma attacks. It always scared the crap out of Cassandra. Because the last time she had that, Cassandra almost lost her. "Are you alright now?" I asked and she hummed in reply. "Are there any changes today?" She sighed, silence enveloped us for a few moments before she broke it. "I'm sorry Logan but she isn't going to wake up anytime soon." As soon as she said that I dropped the call. Upon arriving at the Russell's Manor I saw moving trucks on their driveway and tow trucks. I guess the talk with the bank had made things move faster, the gates were opened and 5 cars were being towed out of the estate. We stopped by the entrance as Antoinette was begging for the worker to not take her $20,000 coffee table. "We still had a few days to pay the bank back!!!" She screeched, stomping back in her home. A man in a suit was smiling as he watched their things taken, he must've not liked them. "Excuse me, I am here to see Mrs.Russell." I inquired and he looked at me with a huge smile, power walking my way he took my hand and smiled so bright. "You are Ms. Casey's husband, yes?" He asked, looking at me like a child who had high hopes and dreams. I couldn't help but nod in response. "I saw what happened on T.V. Is she okay? Please tell me.. I need to know if my ward is okay.." He asked, his smile faded into a frown. "She is doing fine Mr. ...?" I had to ask, didn't want to be rude. "My name is Garrett, Ian Garrett, I am a butler of the Russell's however my main ward is Ms. Casey." He smiled and after a little talk with him, we agreed to him being under my employment and he will be watching Cassandra while she was under the condition she was in. Mr. Garrett ushered me in, we strayed from the workers who were on their way out taking their things. "Antoinette will be in the sun room, most likely drinking her life away with the situation recently." Garrett spoke hard, should I tell him what did they do to his beloved ward? "I know that look.. I know the way they treat her, you don't know how many times I wanted to take Casey away from here, I wanted her to run away and live her life and not behind the shadows of these people she called family." He glared at the family portrait that hung proudly on the wall, she wasn't in the picture. "When Hank finally kicked her out I was mortified but happy.. Mortified that he was that cruel to disown his daughter however happy because she was finally free of them." He looked at the portrait with so much hate. "Thank you.. For taking care of Cassandra." I smiled sadly at him and he nodded saying it was a blessing that I came in her life. I wanted to tell him it was more of I was blessed she came into mine. Pushing the doors open, there she sat on a bar stool drinking off a bottle of Jack. "Its all over for you people." I spoke and she was surprised, her head quickly turning my way. "You... What are you doing here?!" She screamed and I remained impassive. "I am here to look around since the bank says that the house will be for sale in a few days, 2-3 give or take." I reasoned and it was a legitimate reason because the bank did say that. "This house will never go for sale! It is my house and ... " she spaced out looking at her bottle of Jack, her eyes were lifeless, as if she had spaced out right there and then, looking at her for a minute, silent and unmoving, I believe she did space out. "You people hurt my wife, you degraded her, you emotionally abused her. But that was not enough for you was it?" My voice rose and she was out her trance, she dared look up at me with a smirk - I have seen this expression in the past too many times, its the expression of one who knows they no longer have anything else to gamble and would mock at death as if their suffering would end any faster. I couldn't help but walk her way and grab her by her stick neck, that was the time she looked at me wide eyed and clawed at my hand since I was close to cutting off her air supply. "I am someone you do not want to mess with Antoinette, your petty schemes almost caused my wife her life. Don't think I didn't know that the driver was your lover. " I spat and if it was possible her eyes even went wider, she dug her nails on the skin of my hand, raising her into the air she was thrashing around. "I am not as lenient as my wife, you should've known from the start on who are you dealing with Antoinette and you better tell that to your husband too." I tightened my grip on her neck and she was turning blue with the lack of air she was getting. I let go, causing her to fall on the ground gasping for air. Her tears streaming down her once beautiful face. "And since your lover was the one who carried out the act, I had to take care of him." She stopped her coughing fit and looked up at me with so much resentment but one thing remained dominant in those dull eyes of hers.. Fear. "You monster!" She screeched out a little scratchy. "I've been called worse Mrs. Russell, think of something more original." I stated and looked down at her, she was on the floor a hand around her neck as if she was soothing the ache. Turning around I made my way back out since talking to a drunk woman would just be a total waste of time. But before I reached the door I turned to look back at her who was in the same position I left her. "By the way Antoinette, this isn't the end yet.. Do tell your family to watch their backs." Were my parting words as I got out of the Manor, Garett was waiting by the door with his suitcases. Leading him to my car we both got out of that hell hole and went back to my safe haven. To my home.
